In Poland we use this to clean Machines, for decontamination of wounds. We put it in ours cars when there is no gasoline. Many uses. But mostly we drink it ;D

I bought a couple of bottles of Spiritus - the 96% / 192 proof one - a few years ago, as I wanted to try the strongest spirit too. Drank it neat (not recommended) in the bath, and, when getting out, fell backwards out of the bath, cracking my head on the wall. Didn't feel a thing! Put the towel on my head and went upstairs, and when I took the towel off my head it was covered in blood. I definitely had a concussion. 10/10!

@@MixedSid Only to mix though lol. Put a bit in my cider to give it a boost up to around wine strength. I worked out at £30 for a 500ml bottle it comes out to £1.79 per pint if it was 5% beer. This is why I only drink cider haha, works out to about 71p a pint @ 5%.

My missus is Polish and her late uncle used to make this stuff on top of his stove in Birmingham and used to call it Smagga (Home made) although my missus said that the word had no meaning in Polish. However the brew was extremely popular down at the Rover car plant where he worked and would swap it for whatever the blokes there made or cooked themselves. I tried some once and almost blew my socks off, gave some to my mates who were quite billious after drinking it.

Maybe the name was sounded something like "samoh-gohn" (in polish - samogon)? If so, this means that he used the polish slang word which describes illegally made home brewed alcohol - moonshine. Samogon = moonshine. You can also call it "bimber (pronounced "beem-behr").

@@MixedSid ​It is mostly used to make “nalewka” (by macerating/infusing fruits, herbs etc.), and sometimes to make other alcoholic drinks. Although vodka is made by mixing Spirytus with water, it is mainly done on a industrial scale, and is not very common practice in Polish households (at least I haven’t encountered it), people just tend to buy vodka off the shelf

@@MixedSid I dont know if its the case now but families used to buy large quantities of spiritus when a wedding was coming up to dilute down into wodka as it was much cheaper to buy and of course large quantities were going to be consumed (You never buy a drink at a Polish wedding) and the part of Poland I got married in it goes on for 3 days. I live there now and was quite surprised when you said it cost 30 quid in England, here it costs next to nothing.

The funniest thing is that the rest of the world thinks we drink 95% spirit on birthdays, family gatherings and parties. As I am w100% Polish, I can say that we don't drink. We use 95% spirit to make medicinal tinctures, weaker ones 50-70%. At parties, we mainly drink vodka, but there are Poles among us who want something stronger, so we drink local alcohol, such as Śliwowica Łącka 70%, or even stronger but having a much better taste than 95% spirit, because ours are made in our own homes from local fruit. . So when you are in a Polish home, be sure to ask if they have anything stronger and tastier than regular vodka, 90% of them will answer that they have it :)

@@MixedSid This is such a drink, today less popular - poured 50 g of raspberry juice and 50 grams of spirit, the juice is heavier, goes to the bottom and alcohol at the top, we set fire (note 95% of the combustion of ghosts like aviation fuel) and when it is warm, it will reduce alcohol, we leave and to the beak with a glass;). Oh, I forgot to add - juice (red with raspberries) and transparent "white" forms of spirit - white/red or Polish flag. PS A friend of the English, lives nearby, married a Polish woman, said that Polish wedding is an accumulation of annual events from the English pub for 10 hours. Old, breaks shoes;)

Awesome dude, just be very careful with spirytus it is 95% after all. Truthfully still looking myself to see what I can make with it apparently makes a very good flavoured vodka as it is a base spirit.
