Actually, a black sheep can be a black sheep, a sheep with black fleece. If somebody is labelled the black sheep of the family, then it means the person is considered bad, a disgrace, somebody who does not belong or does not share common family values.
If you have a cousin who seems to be the one troublemaker in your family, you can call him the black sheep of the family. In other words, he doesn't seem to fit in with the rest of your family members.
The black sheep is the odd one out, whether he's a disgrace to the family or just doesn't seem to belong.
If you describe someone as the black sheep of their family or of a group that they are a member of, you mean that they are considered bad or worthless by other people in that family or group.
