Again, it's subjective. Those lists of the top 10 hardest languages to learn are for native English speakers. There are many people in the world for whom English is the hardest while there are also many people who learned Mandarin in less than 5 months

The difficulty of a language depends on the mother tounge of the learning individual. For me as a German, English is on the easier end of the spectrum and languages like Korean and Chinese are on the difficult end. For a French person, Italian or Spanish are on the easier end, whilst Korean might be, again, difficult Etc

As such, we call Americans "American", people from the whole of either continent "North American" or "South American," and things from the whole new world as "New World" (used like an adjective) or every once in a blue moon "New Worlder" (analogous to "New Yorker" or "Berliner").

Like the days of the month: 1.=tsuitachi 2.=futsuka 3.=mikka 4.=yokka 5.=itsuka 6.=muika 7.=nanoka 8.=youka 9.=kokonoka 10.=tooka 14.=juuyokka 20.=hatsuka and the rest are just [number]+nichi. I mean English does that too, but just with the first 3 days and not for literally everything. Like, you can say "one (human)", "one (animal)" and "one (flat thing like a piece of paper)". In Japanese that would be "hitori", "ippiki", "ichimai".

@Daniele Castaldo Yeah, English is Germanic, which means if you spoke German it should be easy enough. English also has significant latin influence, so people who speak latin-based languages like French or Spanish may also have an easier time learning english, too, although not as easy as if they knew another Germanic launguage

Every time I hear "English is hardest to learn" I feel like it's English monoglotes that know nothing about linguistics Casual example: English has 5 verb forms for each verb my native language has about 30 English has no grammatical cases, whereas my native language has 7, English has no grammatical gender, whereas my native lanuage has 3 And I won't even try to compare English to Hungarian or Georgian

But English is very different from most of other languages (even european) and English writting system is very archaic and illogical. Also it has many weird sounds like TH, their R and other weird sounds, you have to put hot potato to your mouth to pronounce that. :-D I am learnig English maybe 20 years (actively only last few years) and It still happens to me that I type accidentaly see instead of sea or something like that, you have to constantly think about that. The worst thing are words with double letters, I still have to google some words always to write it correctly. :-D

The reason people say English is hard to learn is because it doesn't adhere to its own rules. It may seem to be fairly straightforward at first glance, but every spelling and grammatical rule has exceptions, and many of those exceptions have their own exceptions. Even native English speakers struggle to keep the rules sorted. That said, the hardest language to learn is Mandarin. For the record, English DOES have grammatical cases, but only for pronouns.

True. I've studied (forcefully) German for 7 years in school and it was nightmare of a language, especially the grammar. Thank god I don't have to study that language anymore. Japanese is way more fun than German, but the writing system is a nightmare.
