You sir are the definition of a true craftsman. The level of detail you go too even with oak framing is truly stunning. I myself have learnt so much from your videos over the years. I don't normally comment on here but when I watched you scribing in those braces, unbelievable. 👌

before upvc window profiles came coextruded , we used to keep all gasket coiled up in a large bucket with a lid on and a hole in the centre of the lid, worked a treat and kept dust of it. Love your content, im a joiner myself and its nice to see someone who genuinely takes pride in what they do 👏👏

Hi Oliver. I’m off to France tomorrow to celebrate my granddaughter’s 16th birthday so may not get a chance to see your videos for ten days. I would accept a 0.00mm gap any day and that Bradshaw signature would probably have been my thumb! And yes, I did enjoy the joint appreciation. I was trying to think of a joinery pun but nothing woodwork. Keep up the good work 🌞

I am loving this current series. Like many others have commented, I too have learned a great deal from you over the years. What I particularly like is you show not just high end cabinetry work, but stuff like this current series and everything in between. I particularly liked the videos you did on repairing an old pine door, adding a bit of length to it (especially as I would like to do the same to my drafty front door!) And the repair to the garden door. Yes you could have ripped the frame out and made a new one, but the spliced in repair was great, and just about any of us could do following your lead. Please keep up the great work. All the best from a POM in NZ!

Fantastic skill and attention to detail. I heard you mention sanding down the water stains in an earlier video. I am sure others have mentioned it Oxalic Acid worked well on our green oak. Scrubbed on and then washed and scrubbed off. I was sceptical but it worked well and reached the parts a sander struggles to reach.

Great work Ollie. I used to work with an old school joiner who had a set of draw bore rods that were like chef’s sharpening irons but they were made in such a way that you could hammer them into the draw hole to bring it together but when you turned it it loosened off do you could pull it out to disassemble. I think he made them as I’ve never seen them since

Re:seals ocd aggravation!...I've seen window fitters use a tub with a hole cut in lid so u can draw out what you need. You might have to take all or an amount off the reel and you need some tubs! ( i never throw a tub that's cleanoutable away!) Love the channel, although I'm a decorator not a woodworker. Appreciate the tips on tools etc which I've found useful and just the output of a tradesman who cares about his work 👏🏻👍🏻

Fantastic as usual, a pleasure to watch. I can definitely confirm with one of the other comments, oxhalic acid works an absolute treat on greying oak or water stained oak as long as it has not been previously treated with anything. It will cause it to go a lighter colour for a while but it is only temporary. I would encourage you to try it on a test piece, if you haven’t already, the results are great. I dilute it in hot water, just makes it quicker. I’m sure you may have covered this question but I cant find it, why do you cut the draw bore pegs off half way through the joint (by drilling them) and then hammer in new ones from the other side, creating 2 halves of 1 peg? You obviously have a good reason, I just cant work it out 🤔
@David40S
@David40S Жыл бұрын
Oxalic acid is pretty toxic - found in high concentration in rhubarb leaves - not much insect life will eat them. Best not to eat your sandwiches straight after, without washing your hands first. Prolonged or repeated contact can cause a skin rash, pain, redness, blisters, and slow healing ulcers.

How about some wooden reels for the cables. Or a box with a latch and a handle. Like a case with an horizontal axle inside that would hang the carton reel up so that you can unwind cable from it. Tgen at end of the day you shut the case, lock it and throw in the back of the van. Make out of some sturdy timber, of course!😊🎉

This might be of interest ,I subbed for one of the bigger oak framing companies for a few years and staining was cleaned using oxalic acid ,heavy staining was sometimes removed with a very light sand blast and oxalic acid wash sometimes in prep for a treatment for clients that didn’t want a natural ageing

For OCD control. I have used the caravan electric cable tidy reels ( the big plastic orange ones, would send a link but can't do that on here) and for bigger amounts I built my own version out of ply just wider and use a rod between two sawhorses on site to unwind. Bit of masking tape on end to stop unraveling. Hope that helps
