@@GlorifiedGremlin it's important to teach your kids how to act around and to dogs, more bites happen from little dogs being manhandled by a toddler.. I taught my kids from a super young age, to NEVER EVER HUG ANY DOG! Never play with their food and don't pull of their ears, skin tail ect. It's your job as a parents to teach them how to behave around ppl and animals. Whether they are big or small... I also had my dogs around my kids both Super large dogs, the most they ever did was get up and go to their bed when they were done playing with the boy's. And the boy's were taught once the dog is done and on her/his bead that's the dogs safe place and the kids are to leave them alone. It's imperative you teach them these things no matter how big the animal is... Even a small dog will and can do damage to a small child.. I chose to have large dogs around my small children because of LOTS if reasons. But the dogs I picked are some of the very best dogs to have with kids. Small dogs bite more kids than big dogs, i also trained both my dog to do verbal commands and signs, the biggest was also the most lazy which is another reason I bought her. Leas likely to get bored and destructive when I didn't have time to play with her. There are so many factors you need to use besides just size when picking a dog to be around your kids.

When I was a baby my uncle got my dad and I a boxer, they were amazing, I see a lot of people don’t want to get a dog when they have babies or small children, but if you get them used to their scent and they’re well trained you’d be surprised how well they take the ear and fur pulling of babies

Personally having had 2 of these gentle giants, I have to say they are the best breeds for a family and just in general, our current English mastiff weighs 250 pounds, most English mastiffs lick to show affection but ours is a biter. But he knows not to bite the little kids in the family because he knows it hurts them. As for the older people, he loves to nibble and wrestle, every thing in this video is true, they are truly the best breed for basically anything. And one thing he left out, they sleep a LOT. Especially as puppies.

Hi! I actually have a mastiff who is getting up there, and I’ve had one before. When they get older I’d suggest much more regular vet visits, a really good diet, lots of access to clean water, and joint support. They’re so heavy that they can get joint problems when they get older. Just want to warn they are a very, very expensive dog, and I wouldn’t suggest walking or playing after they eat because their stomachs can flip which could kill them (I personally have a 1 hour rule before play and walks). I do want to reiterate, very expensive, when it comes to food, toys, vet visits, etc. Also, normal dog poo bags won’t work, get large ones, please god get the large ones, I’ve fucked that up before and had to use two to three normal bags. I hope this helps (I’m a bit tone deaf when it comes to how this is read so I hope it’s coming over as informative rather than condescending or something like that, I hope you get that mastiff, they are so sweet! And love infinitely… you will never be ready for the amount of shedding though)

I took care of an abandoned mastiff this winter. Wish I could've kept her but she's too big for the apartment I live in most of the year. I tried for months to get someone I knew to take her. So I could see her again. I haven't gotten to see her again. I worked with a private foster agency so she wouldn't end up in a shelter but still. I miss her. She ruined a bunch of my stuff, screwed my neck up dragging me around, and was a really untrained dog, but she desperately wanted to be a good girl. I cried when they came to get her lol. She had skin flaking issues and they paid for the vet appointment so it was really all the best for her. But still. I have her bsf. The teacup Yorkie abandoned with her. The agency said they wouldn't be able to get them adopted together anyway so I just kept him. Paid for his vet bills. He's my little homie now. Still miss that mastiff though. Yes I'm a bleeding heart for dogs. I can't help it. I kept two dogs someone abandoned for 4 months just so they wouldn't end up in a shelter lol.

LOL and don't let then play after eating their stomachs can flip and also it's best if their bowls are raised up off the ground this will also help avoid that problem but don't play with them or take them on a hike or run or whatever after a big old meal because that can be deadly for these guys..

At 193 lb my gentle giant was not able to swim so please keep this in mind if you are thinking about getting one. He also got bit by moccasin at The Waters edge. It wasn't the snake bite that killed him but he was 10 years old and went downhill very fast. Second greatest loss of my life next to my mother

Gave one a treat today and he tried to take it gentle but he was just such a monster. I bleed just a bit but he didn't mean to. Didn't hurt but man, big ol monsters.

Koko and Clancy: 130lbs and 150lbs respectively lived to 11.5 yrs and 13.5 yrs respectively. They were awesome couch potatoes who on one bright Autumn day gave a meter reader a scare of his lifetime! Very protective, gentle when cuddling, drooled excessively and loved their diet of beef heart, broccoli, carrots and nutritional kibble.

I had an English mastiff when I was little. I can remember trying to ride her like a horse at least once, but I feel off as soon as she started walking. 😂 I love these cuddly bears. ❤️❤️❤️

I love these dogs. I had a Bull Mastiff. Lived for 12 years and probably would have lived longer had he not gotten Lymphoma. I miss the big oaf.

They are gentle giants and adorable to boot! ♥️🐾 I do, however, think the Tibetan Mastiff is the biggest dog.
@kurthauenstein7149 Жыл бұрын
English mastiff bigger and heavier. Check your K.C or A.K.C as the case may be. Neopolitan mastiffs are also only slightly smaller than the E.M.

If he sits on you, you just have to wait until he's ready to get up.
