My eldest sister had a bull arab x bull mastiff. He was the biggest sook around people, loved getting pats, was great around kids. When our mum would go to visit, he would push everyone out of the way just to be next to her. He was also trained to be a very loyal guard dog. His way of greeting you was to bring you a "gift". Such a beautiful boy. ❤

Our George reached 262 lbs., but thankfully, he was never destructive like Poo Bear. He lived to a ripe old age of 13 years, which is unheard of for an English Mastiff. Darn we miss that big boy. Poo is adorable. Enjoy every minute with him.

When I was a kid, we rescued a Mastiff x Boxer from the pound, who we named Maximilian. We thought he was already fully grown when we adopted him but he was not done yet. At his biggest, he was about half the size and mass of Pooh Bear but that is still a very large dog, especially for kids. Maxi also remained very playful and goofy, puppylike, despite his quite mean-looking face, and had no idea of his own size. He loved sitting on my lap but would get there gradually, first putting his head on my lap while looking up at me with his soulful eyes to gauge my reaction, then one front paw followed by the other, and then he would just clamber up entirely. I could tell he was trying to be delicate about it but he was so big and heavy that I couldn't see past him and just my little legs would stick out from under him. I would take it for as long as I could tolerate the weight of him because I knew he just wanted to be babied and I loved him so much. A good compromise was spooning but he had to be the little spoon with my skinny little arm draped over him. He was so fun, loving, loyal and protective. He would stand watch over me when I was so ill that I couldn't get out of bed and come into my room to lay on my bed when I had nightmares. Rest in peace, Maxi, and thanks for being the best boy.

My nephew was a 200 pound English Mastiff and the love of my life. I could do anything with him (like dress him up) and never complained. Was such an easy dog to walk. I’ll always miss him. This is a great video. Pooh and Mr. Cody share several of the same traits.

it's funny how little dogs wished they were big to justify their sense of authority, they want to be large and in charge, then we have big dogs who want to believe they are small, they see how small dogs are babied and they want that, of course im not saying big dogs don't get as much love as small dogs, but not every dog can be the same lap dog as a chihuahua when you're tall enough to drink from the sink without standing up

I hope every potential adopter looking at this situation takes a SECOND look at pups they see pics of at breeders or shelters with their heads as well as their heart, to ensure the breed, size and behaviors will work with their own situation including amount of time daily to train and spend with, other family members, home details, future plans, and finances. Far too many animals end up back devastated and forgotten in cages or euthanized because someone only decided to get a pet with their heart and not their head. 😢❤

We have a mastiff as well, and he's 16 years old which we were told he'd never reach. He was heavier but as he got old he lost weight. He's only 150 now but he still thinks he's a puppy and sleeps in the bed all over you. He has no idea he's still big...lol

Just some trivia ...the heaviest verified dog by the Guiness Book of World Records was an English Mastiff names Zorba at 343 lbs! He lived until almost 11 years which is longer than average for a Mastiff proving he was healthy. He was not obese. He was unusually tall and long, even for a Mastiff. He was said to be 8'3" from nose to tail!
