Man Utd battle past Arsenal to win their eighth Premier League title
As the Premier League reached 10 years of compelling competition, Manager of the Decade Sir Alex Ferguson celebrated his own accolade in fitting style as Manchester United overcame an eight-point deficit from defending champions Arsenal to wrest back the title and hold aloft the Premier League trophy for the eighth time.
Even though they paid a British record fee for England defender Rio Ferdinand from Leeds United, who replaced manager David O'Leary with Terry Venables in the summer, the Red Devils struggled to keep up with Arsene Wenger's Arsenal side in the early stages.
Arsenal's north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur also started strongly, with new recruit Robbie Keane leading the line as they topped the Premier League table after four matches, but the Gunners took control and won seven of their first nine matches.
The season's opening weeks also provided a couple of memorable local derbies. In September, goalkeeper Peter Enckelman let a throw-in slip under his foot and into the net as newly-promoted Birmingham City secured a 3-0 success against Aston Villa, while Paolo Di Canio scored a stunning volley in West Ham United's 3-2 win at Chelsea.
Premier League leaders Arsenal were finally unstuck by a memorable debut goal from 16-year-old Everton striker Wayne Rooney, who crashed a curling, long-range strike off the underside of David Seaman's crossbar to secure a 2-1 win in the dying moments of their encounter at Goodison Park in October.
A defeat by Blackburn Rovers, whose attack was spearheaded by Manchester United's 1999 UEFA Champions League winning strike-force of Dwight Yorke and Andrew Cole, followed but the Gunners quickly topped the pile again after the prolific Thierry Henry scored a brilliant solo effort in a 3-0 win against Spurs in November.

Yeah and WestHam I recall played well in quite a few games where they should've won but drew or should've at least drawn but lost like they played well against Arsenal home&away and only had 1point to show for it when they were 2-0 up against them & they had a penalty saved in that game to deny 3-1 finished 2-2 late equaliser they then lost 3-1 later in the season vs Arsenal sod's law but still got 42pts which would usually keep you up anyway.

It probably looked like a mistake to sell him and then replace him with the likes of Djemba-Djemba but sometimes you've got to lose to win. Veron was good but not as good as we thought he would be, his 2nd season was better than his first but still not as good as we expected when he was first bought and if he stayed any longer his valuation would've decreased to near zero like Berbaflop's did. Chelsea recently turned Chelski bought him for a good amount and he didn't do anything with them. ManUtd still would've won the ChampionsLeague 2003/04 with a weaker squad than they'd had for many years, due to an abnormally easy pathway it would've been from QF to final had Scholes's 2nd vs Porto in L16 not been disallowed for offside when he was played onside by 4 Porto players. Djemba-Djemba was already sold by Jan2005 and other players made their way into the team signed Carrick 2006 then dominated the PL for the next 7 years (with other additions as well not just Carrick he was just the one that took the opportunity in CM for ManUtd when Veron & a few others after him failed to which is funny because I think Veron is a more talanted player than Carrick....but Vidic, Evra & VanDerSar were huge signings ManUtd had problems with Goalkeeper's for a few years before the latter came in. Ronaldo got good from 2006/07, Ferdinand also didn't have anymore bans which had contributed to the blip ManUtd had in 03/04&04/05 as well...there were obviously a few other important additions before winning the CL in 07/08 but ManUtd's most important signing of the lot from post Beckham&Veron sale was Rooney).

That's LESS THAN HALF of what ManUtd got vs the same teams! And also ManUtd yet again were doing this WHILST having a stronger ChampionsLeague campaign than Arsenal just like from 1996/97 onwards.
