Awesome job! I had a Bates with that weird red painted coating , acetone wouldn't budge it. I ended up using a fine grit sandpaper and then soaking it in oil. it darkened to a raw dark brown and looked SO much more "expensive" just like this saddle!

Did you use any edge finish or sealant on this when done? I am looking to dye a western saddle, and I have read a lot about needing to use a finish. Thanks! Amazing transformation.

Does the dye rub off on your breeches?

So I have a large stain on a old saddle of mine on the seat. Would doing this process on just the seat panel help diminish the stain or possibly even remove it? It's an older english Stubben jump saddle

I want to buy leather dye, and restore a little bit an old dressage saddle where it's coat abraded, but I never use leather dye. Can that dye color white riding pants? Thank you if you answer that! (sorry if I sometimes not correct, but English isn't my mother tongue)

It can be done, but you’ll want to add a coat of some kind of sealant. Resolene or tankote might work for you. And if you ride in not white breeches the first few times, I think you would be safe. Good luck!

i want to do this with my saddle but do i have to take off the old dye?
@RachelBEaston6 жыл бұрын
erin sullivan only if it’s got a pint or something that would keep the dye from penetrating. If it’s just dyed, I would give it a rip down with some alcohol to remove any oils and then dye.

Is there a way I can just redye a few spots? All of the restorations I've seen are complete restorations and not just one spot. I understand that if you redye only one spot, you run the risk of bleeding but is there a way to do this safely?
@casil53912 жыл бұрын
i think it might be hard because you would have to have the exact same color
