English Setter Training Heel Work: "Make the Machine" | Ep: #10

English setter training continues as today is our first day focusing exclusively on beginning heel work with Maquina! We like to start our puppy's out early with heel work, which starts by simply bouncing them along with a lead and flat collar. English setter training heel work is a first for me, and I am excited to see how she takes to it.
As you have heard us preach time and time again, a dog's a dog. With any dog, no matter the breed or end goal, the foundation is the most important and the part that must come first to accomplish the things we want down the road. This English Setter training series will be focusing mainly on just that, the foundational dog training, until we she is ready to move on.
This series will be different from any other we’ve done for a variety of reasons. What won’t be different is that it will be real, raw and unedited. We share the good, bad and ugly knowing they they all are important in order to make progress with a pup.
Will she point? Eventually yes, I’m sure of that. Until then, we are enjoying every minute of her “being a puppy” and by that I mean an english setter puppy that makes good choices and is exposed to and held to the standard of behavior we expect. Discipline is not a negative word. Discipline earns freedom.

Loving the series! What's leading you to use the flat collar over the slip collar?

She’s just too small to use a slip. The value of the on/off pressure would be lost and just too much for her this young. When we first start out I use the flat collar until they start to understand what the heel position is.
