You can’t blame those teachers because in the first place, they’re not trained for teaching English. The system needs to change a lot in order to improve the communication skills of Malayalees. I have seen how the career growth of many keralites gets stunted due to their not so developed communication skills.

Sreelekha P try to watch English news on daily basis, read newspapers and magazines which is really helpful to improve our vocabulary also need to communicate in English, do not shy to speak even though you are talking incorrect. Practice make perfect. Try to get the English novels, choose simplified novels first for the beginners.
