Good question, Andalouz. Using the preset perfect in this situation means the keys are still lost. Using the past simple asks if at some time in the past they saw the keys. It's one, finished activity in the past and is not connected to the present. Perhaps the keys were found. Hope this is useful for you!

I've learnt this at school but I started using them correctly after reading books and watching movies in English. And i kind of never knew why i use it like that. I tried to translate it from my native language (Armenian) but it got worse beacuse Armenian and English are very different. So i just used them correctly without knowing how. Although I'm quite confused, because you said "we're usually creating points in time with these tenses" , my question is : why is the word "usually" used together with the present continuous ? As far as I know the word "usually" is linked with the present simple , but why use the word "usually" together with the present continuous in the sentence ? I would like explanations, thank you a lot
