Dear Kim, you are a great teacher. You've given us a golden rule: To Vibrate from the center of the mouth. I found applying this rule almost enough to stress the right syllable. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Awww, that's so kind of you to say! I'm happy my videos are helping you realize what's possible for you! I'm glad you can understand me, even though I do speak as naturally as possible. My goal is to help you adjust to natural speech so that you can both speak clearly and understand us clearly! :)

Hi Kim, how's it going? Thanks for sharing your valuable knowledge with us. Stress the right syllava or even the right words in a sentence is not easy, but by watching your videos and practicing I know I can achieve my goals. Your lessons have been of great help to me. You're a great professional teacher. My pronunciation is getting better thanks to you.

I often say that stress and intonation are simple, but not easy. If you just watch a video like this, it seems like such a simple exercise. But when you actually practice along with me, you realize that it really takes time, patience, and practice to master contrast! I'm happy to hear that your pronunciation is getting better! I'm always interested in ideas for future videos, so let me know if there's something you'd like me to cover!

Glad it helped you! I offer online courses, and the Stress Simplified program has over 50 practice exercises related to stressing words, phrases, and thought groups. There is a structured 30 day boot camp to help you internalize stress patterns.

Hi and thanks for this lesson! I really need it. Do you also drop the T in restaurant? When you pronounce it, i cant hear that T sound 🤔
@Englishwithkim Жыл бұрын
Which /t/ sound are you talking about? The /t/ sound at the end of the word is usually pretty soft. If the word comes at the end of a phrase or sentence, your mouth might end in the /t/ shape without releasing the puff of air afterwards. This video on fast speech explains a number of changes that happen to sounds in words: kzbin.info/www/bejne/l37PgYGarbh9oLc

thanks so much for the video! QQ: so there's usually only 1 stress syllable in any given word?
@EnglishwithkimАй бұрын
We focus on primary stress for clear communication, but words may also have secondary stress, unstressed, and reduced syllables.
@edflam75553 жыл бұрын
can the second words be reduced to a schwa in fast speech? LOUDməth, BACKpək..just curious, btw this is an awesome video!!
@Englishwithkim3 жыл бұрын
In these cases, "mouth" and "pack" receive secondary stress, which means the vowel sound is still clear, just not emphasized as much as "loud" and "back." When syllables receive secondary stress or are unstressed, they're not reduced to schwa, even in fast speech.
