I think many people use a negative, rather than positive, interpretation of Happy Holidays. Actually Happy Holidays is not a replacement of Merry Xmas. Holidays encompasses Hannukah, Kwanzaa, etc in addition to Xmas. It is like saying Happy Lunar New Year instead of Happy Chinese New Year. Vietnamese and Koreans also celebrate the same New Year as Chinese do. So, celebrating Lunar New Year is more inclusive.
