Many times I dream how great it would had been if Germany had won the war. Just imagine to have a really unified Europe under one flag and one language. Our cities would be European cities without racial or religious terrorist groups waiting to jump on the innocent. The Middle East would be in peace without having a reason to declare violence and Africa would be free of these liberated republics in which the local president for life steals and kills at will. There would be no Soviet Union with all the horror Communism brought to the world and as for America, oh righteous reader, it would had continue with its segregation laws that even today, albeit in a hidden way, are followed by many. Well-to-do would continue to buy Mercedes, Audi, BMW and Walther pistols would be great to own. Thank you. And I agree with Bismarck, lies are told by the victors; just remember Eisenhowers´s Death Camps for German POWs. But since he won there is movie about it....yet.

I was a police officer in 1974, working sales behind the counter of a gun dealership in College Park, Georgia, just to make a little extra money. A nice little old lady walked into the store and carefully placed a beautiful walnut presentation case on the counter in front of me and said "I need the money, otherwise I wouldn't be selling it, because it belonged to my late husband. He brought it back from Germany after the war. A gun dealer down the street offered me $500 for it. The way he looked at it, I got the impression it was worth a lot more, so I thought to bring it to you folks for an estimate of it's value." The case had a medallion on the top that looked either plated with or solid gold with the Olympic rings engraved into it and enameled in different colors. Within the case was a Walther PP, fully engraved, gold plated, with Olympic rings engraved on the side of the weapon that was visible. I never touched the Walther, as I knew what its' value must have been, even in 1974! I told the lady that I would get the store manager to take a look at her weapon and when the manager saw it, he immediately asked the lady to bring the case and come with him to his office. A few minutes later, he came and asked me if I would call the dept. I worked for and run the serial number on NCIC, which I did, and it came back clean. I never saw that lady again, but the manager told me later that they were able to place it into a very special auction for her, along with the J.P. Sutherland Colt collection, and that she would probably receive about 100 times what the neighborhood gun dealer had offered her! This was one of those moments in my life I'll never forget, and I was so glad that lady didn't get ripped off!

My great uncle in law (Col Hardy Hollers) was an atty in the Nuremberg Triials & was given a death's head luger at the end of the trials by then Gen Eisenhower. It is still treasured by our family.

My Dad got one that looked just like it from Buchenwald. He was one of the first into that hell hole. Unfortunately, his was stolen in 1955 (or there abouts,) by the only person that knew he had it and where it was hidden. (Other than myself.). It was a real loss to him.

Not really, as the generation dies the values have steadily gone down, because the people who collected them and appreciated them are going away. Luger's used to hold upwards of atleast $1500 and you can pick them up for $700-$800 now

The true story is that the us-soldiers killed the SS officer (all members of the SS were killed by the allied in the last days of WWII) and took the Walther away.

my buddy has a 1911 stamped in 1938, that was commendered my an ss officer, its engraved, has an ss stamp, and custom grips that feature a swastika. his grandfather brought it back from the invasion of juno beach. beautiful peice of history.

My Grandpa fought for General Patton Third Army 94th Infantry Division, Awarded a Silver Star and Purple Heart. He brought back a Walther, No it didn't come from a dead SS. He took it off a German Pow he had captured. He stashed the pistol many times because of the fear of being captured with it. Almost lost it in the Battle of the Bulge because of fresh snow. The pistol was Nickel Plated. It was a blued finish when he took it from the German. He was stationed in Czechoslovakia after the war he paid three packs of Lucky Strike cigarettes to have that gun nickel-plated.

At the formerly held Great Western Gun and Militaria Show held in Pomona, California I saw a small gold colored pistol with a document from a German pistol manufacturer saying their research showed the pistol had been presented to Himmler upon his visit to their factory.

Hmmmm.... How much time do you think elapsed from the time Buchenwald was liberated to when an Army Air Corps officer could fly a couple of congressmen down to Buchenwald for a tour? Weeks? I think, by the time this tour happened, any SS bodies would have been "disposed of" and, certainly, any souvenir pistols would have been long gone (Taken by the front-line troops who liberated the camp). Its an interesting story but, again, just because the veteran recited this story, doesn't necessarily make it true. More than likely, this gentleman traded something (Cash?) for this pistol.

Well - actually nearly 2 weeks. As a matter of simply looking up what you can find in history books: Buchenwald was liberated on April 11th. To confront german population, around 1000 inhabitants of nearby city Weimar were sent to visit the camp and see piles of body on April 16th. That happend on command of american authorities. A group of american politicians (Sen. Alben W. Barkley, Sen. Charles W. Brooks, Rep Dewey Jackson Short, Rep. John Martin Vorys, Rep. Edouard Izac) visited on April 24th. Among the journalists that visited that day was also a certain Joseph Pulitzer... Also - the list of SS guards present at they is documented very well - and probably just an email away from obtaining by getting in touch with the Buchenwald memorial and museum. On the other hand - I am not sure if there is sufficient documentation available about purchases of factory engraved Walther PPs. Although it is worth noticing that the Walther Factory was only ~ 50 miles away from Buchenwald...

My father-in-law brought back a Nazi Officer's Walther PP with the leather flap holster. He got it when his Glider Unit helped liberate Dachau. I met him when he was 72 (28 years ago) and he still knew his 3 General Orders and all of his bayonet moves. He only told me because I was Army SF. Too bad he gave it to his youngest son but my wife did get a ceremonial sword and a paratrooper 8mm rifle with the bayonet that folds under the forehand grip.

I have a Belgian British Bulldog revolver my grandfather took off a Nazi soldier during the Battle of the Hürtgen Forest, who most likely took it as a souvenir himself. It’s a really odd little gun with no trigger guard and a folding-forward trigger that can be used to cock it. Spends all its time in an oily rag. I highly doubt it was fired much before WWII, and it hasn’t been fired since.

A man in our neighhood was in supply in the war. One time when I was little his son, who was much older than me took me inside his house. It was full of weapons he had sent back to himself from Europe. I guess he showed us because we were playing war.

Yes, just a sworn death bed affidavit from one of our vets. Believe it or not, the GIs did not travel thru the war with their lawyers and stenographers getting sworn documents. Of course no one stopped to get photos and signatures along the way.

My uncle who was in Italy during World War II. With the 473 infantry division. They captured a Nazi position and he was searching the German soldiers after their capture.He recovered a pistol from the Germans Officers boot. when I was a kid I used to pester him about what he did in the war. And he would show me the gun that he brought back. When a local gun dealer found out that he had the gun he offered to buy it right away. But he wouldn’t take it. But I guess the offer was too good to turn down because he eventually sold it to a gun dealer out of New York. It was a big deal at the time because this was in rural Mississippi.

Sorry, but I'm a sceptic. Not that the gun isn't from the war but how it was acquired. Buchenwald was evacuated by the German Officers before the US Army reached it and liberated it. I, too, have no proof, but my father in law was there with his Kodak and described, in detail, what they found when the gates were opened. There had been an uprising and all the Germans had been killed. He said there were only tower guards dead in the camp. They had been pulled down beaten and shot. The prisoners actually did have some couple of hundred guns that had been taken from various sources. Those guns were taken by the US for the prisoners own safety. The prisoners were aware that they were about to be rescued (I don't know how they knew) but perhaps the fleeing of the German troops in the camp was their clue. There was no German resistance when liberated as there were no alive Germans there. Sure wish more had been documented. This gun could very well have come from an Officer of Buchenwald but acquired by different means. Story embellished? Sounds good though.

I certainly would not argue what Buchenwald was like at the end of the war. I was not there. Also, I did another video on a GI story about a P.38 "Amazing Find". Both videos were critiqued that "the story is not plausible". But as a collector, when I have a sworn / notarized affidavit from the GI who brought the gun home. And when (in both cases) it is a "death bed" declaration, I find it hard to question the GI's honesty. Is it possible that memories are clouded or embellished over time. Absolutely. But if feel compelled to continue telling the stories of our GI's and the "capture" guns that they brought home. In any case I appreciate your perspective.

He said that he never fired his rifle and all those behind the front lines traded (chocolate, smokes, etc) for stuff they wanted. Pretty common he said.

I knew an OSS hero who killed 3 SS officers and brought home a PP and a two Lugar PO8s. One of the Lugars was from one of the SS OFFICERS. He was a CIA officer after the war. He was originally from Finland and hated Hitler. His missions were extremely dicy to say the least. His son is a well known musician here in the USA and I'm good friends with him. I've fired many rounds with one of the Lugar PO8s and the PP.

Apart from WW2 I can say with no gray areas that since WW2 every war USA has been in has been a farce to support the military industrial complex and Israel. Vietnam was a farce, gulf of Tonkin? Absolutely chilling and reprehensible you could possibly smile at the possession of this weapon that was owned by death camp officer. One need only close your eyes to imagine the fear, grief, pain that guy helped inflict on innocents. And much worse the actual deaths he personally executed with it. Maybe you should share that murderous story by donating it to the Holocaust Museum.

Hi and thanks. What would be the best way to research a german mauser? I have done some but not much avail. Any help is appreciated

All records were destroyed at the factory. There is not way to get records. The only way I have access to info is to look for a name on the holster or capture papers. For this story, there was a piece of paper inside the holster with the name of the vet. If you email me photos of the Mauser I can at least they you make and model and date range for production.

The results that I found by year of manufacture (1940) and by serial number and the markings of the swaticas and the swastikas with the eagles, it was made in Austria by I'm going to call it ADW company because I can't remember what the A or the W stands for. The D is Daimler. And at the time they were making rifles for the SS. The rifle is numbers matching to everything. It has been sporterized so the tob stock and part of the bottom stock are missing along with the bayonet lug. I was just wondering if there was a way to narrow it down even further. @@ryanderrickson6949 So you are talking about a K98? The initials are, I believe, a code for the Styer Factory. But cant say for sure. W is usually "works". So Daimler Works. ?

How did it work back in the day when a soldier came back from the war with a souvenir gun? Did they just declare at customs or their barricks or did they have to get a licence for it? Cool video thanks for sharing.

Most just brought them back in the duffle bag. Many have never been registered or declared. Some registered them with their local police once they settled in back home, but that was definitely the minority.

I've always been one of those, "if only this gun could talk," sort of guys. It's cool you have the history on this example.....to a point. The point at which it was liberated from the dead officer. It stands to good reason that gun's history is even darker. It's a good bet it got used from time to time to dispatch concentration camp internees.

Most people brought back a gun and said it was from a dead SS officer, my great grandfather brought one back and said he traded a pack of cigarettes for it. The look on his face when he told the story definitely said he didn't trade a pack of cigarettes for it..

I have an old battle worn PP from an old retired German man that was my neighbor outside Philly for fixing his bathroom . 1995 . I took it home and shot it in my backyard and got the worse slide bite I ever got lol . I never shot it again but still have it .

What caliber is it ? From the barrel it looks like a 22. But the ejection looks like a 45.

When I was a kid we went into an old broken down log cabin in the middle of the forest outside of Mt Holly NJ. We found a German SS uniform with hat, boots, belt buckle the whole works and a luger with a pearl grip and gold eagles on it in a trunk. We played soldiers for the day and threw all of it in the creek so we wouldn't get in trouble.

War prizes,as a boy l fished with a guy who was a ball turret gunner im unsure why he was in a B17 as my grandad also a canuck was in a halifax anyhow,one story l remember was when they came back aboard ship since they were low priority had a two week wait at anchor he said the boxing matches were something else but the poker games....l see your iron cross an raise with my luger...he said allmost anything you can imagine was in those games.
