Hi everyone, and thank you for your nice comments :-) For those who are interested in knowing more following my Shakespeare video lesson posted in July 2015 (The influence of Shakespeare on everyday English, kzbin.info/www/bejne/l52sn4Rto99-qKs), I can recommend a new page on Facebook offering a short daily reading from a Shakespeare play or poem: 'Shakespeare 400 Daily Reading'. The page launches on 23 April 2016 (the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare's death), but it's already available for you to have a look and click 'Like' if you wish. Thanks and see you again soon :-)

+Learn English with Gill (engVid) Dear Gill, I have "Shakespeare's use of think" -The lady doth protest too much, methinks. Methink! How do you find it?:) Do you still use the word in your speech? Many thanks for your brilliant lessons. More Shakespeare, please!
@engvidGill8 жыл бұрын
Thanks Sahsa -- 'methinks' isn't used in modern English, unless someone is trying to make a joke :-) For those who haven't seen it before, it's an archaic form, meaning 'I think'.

+Learn English with Gill (engVid) So I can use the word as a joke, good! Thank you for the reply (or the answer?) I appreciate it. Fare thee well (look after yourself)!:)

I think respectful make more sense than respectable ,agree ?
@MuhammadEgypt8 жыл бұрын
Raaad Ahmed I'd say respectable. Here's one difference I've found online: Respectful: When one person shows respect to another. Respectable: When a person is *worthy* of respect.

Hello Gill, Thanks for your effort to teach English in a way which has been presented in a much easier way than other teachers of engVid. I am delighted that I found your videos and learning quite different topics that were not covered by others. I am not quite sure whether it would be a good thing to ask you whether you teach English privately in London? The thing is that I want to go in an advance stage but I want to get 1 to 1 lessons. And I found, you might be the one from whom I can be of more beneficial. I look forward to hearing from you. Have a lovely day.

Yes, I teach English and there's an amaizing thing about the word "think". Most of my students learn easily this word and feel very comfortable using it in practice. While other words like quit, quite and quiet make total mess. Could you advise me how to help them distingwish between these words.
@engvidGill2 жыл бұрын
Hi - I agree with you, words which are spelt in a similar way, but mean very different things, are difficult and cause confusion. One thing I would recommend, which you probably already do, is to give example sentences containing those words, to try to clarify the actual usage. For example, "Since I quit my job, my life has been quite quiet." ;-)
