Ma'am Rebecca, I would like to know if a sentence goes like this : lt's I who called you or lt's me who called you .Which is the correct one? In this sentence 'me' is used as a subject and it is not put in the concluding part of the sentence.

I’m definitely a stickler for using the correct there/their/they’re and your/you’re, but this one seems far more arbitrary to me. I understand what the rule is and what’s technically correct, but I think a differing opinion is very much valid - simply because the s-with-apostrophe construction is also used to show possession in other circumstances, such as, Katie’s pillow or Butlers’ Pantry. In my previous sentence, I used “what’s”; no one would bother to dispute that use of ‘s because there can be no confusion as to whether it’s a contraction - it must be one because a what cannot possess, but a who can. I think the fact that we have a separate word for a possessive who is more a quirk of history than a useful grammatical rule. The purpose of grammar is to aid clear communication by limiting ambiguity and when someone uses who’s to denote possession, it’s perfectly clear what they mean, so I take no issue with it.
