Very useful, especially for Italians who often pronounce, instead of "-shin", "-shiòn" :D thank you Ronnie!

Hello Ronnie, I would like to thank for teaching us the way you do, that is “phat”. The more I check out your videos the more I want to learn. Anyway, I have been trying to find a pronounciation video on -o ending words but found none. I am italian by the way, and as so I found the way I say them all the way different the way them are ment to be said, they sound longer and I would say nicely. So here’s my request: Would you fancy doing a lesson on -o ending words? Thans in advance..See ya Pace

Hey Ronnie don't you worry about those criticism. Because even Jesus that was perfect, couldn't satisfied them! People like me that really need, will appreciate. Thanks
@UncleFizzmo12 жыл бұрын
Actually, I'm a linguistics major, and I can confirm (along with with Cambridge and Oxford English dictionary) that the vowel sound is a schwa. It's not really an "ih" or "uh" sound- it's an unstressed combination of the two. But herby333333 was correct in saying that you're oversimplifying the sound quite a bit. Dictionary(dot)com gives the pronunciation: [ney-shuh n] And the IPA: /ˈneɪ ʃən/ So if anything, "shun" is more phonetically accurate than "shin."

So strange thing I have observed that it is easier for me to understand Canadians than British or U.S. natives. And I do not mean you particularly - be cause as you are teacher it is your duty to say proper and understandable... but some actors, musician from Canada. So what it is? Is it merely my own subjective perception, or do you, Canadian, actually pay more attention for words you say and how you say them? Thank you for your talent, by the way )))

... well one reason for that could be that there is not ONE english pronunciation... of course many people don't talk like that... probably s.o. who teaches pronunciation should stick to general american oder rp .. or at least tell the learners which accent/ variation they are teaching...

Canadians say "boot" when they should say "bout" as in "about". They say "eh?" (pronounced "ay") a lot, and they pronounce the "tion" ending "shin" when the rest of the world says "shun". They say "proNOUNciation" when we say "proNUNciation." And they mispronounce "walk" as if it were "wok."

Oh, you're from Kalifornia? Those people talk funny, too. Their former Governor had a thick Austrian accent and they say "like" a lot. With all their budget problems they must have quit buying dictionaries, too, because they all say it is pronounced with a schwa. But hey, you're from Kalifornia, so you MIST be right and all the dictionaries, and all the other people I've talked to from around the country are wrong.
