You definitely have my sub. This content is next level. For me cannafarm ltd was the turning point. Please keep doing what you do and keep being you, love it.

Hey Ben, I was wondering what app are you using for rebalancing? I looked into Start9 market place and it seems that they dont have any so far. Are you using command line rebalance-lnd or charge-lnd? Thanks!

JFYI, transferring a fully synced blockchain would most likely be faster that resyncing (as the verification process doesn't need to be repeated)

Thinking the same thing. I just cable-transferred 150 gigs from an old phone to a new one in less than two hours. Took nearly a week to download the full blockchain last year. If the Pi's hardware is that much of a bottleneck, I wondering if it's fit to use for anything web related.
@paullamb11002 ай бұрын
@@fondy44 The network hardware isn't actually the bottleneck, but rather file I/O (either via the microSD card or via an external SSD via the USB 3.0 port). The reason is because the PI doesn't have sufficient RAM to hold (in addition to the OS requirements) an efficient number of historic transactions in memory. The verification process ends up having to keep reaching to the file system over and over again to retrieve the data necessary to verify each block.

The old device can be a LND Watchtower for the new device. Appreciate if you would do a video about the importance of a Watchtower for LND and how to set it up on StartOS.

Where should I go if I want to jump into this with the Pure and not upgrade?
@BTCSessions5 ай бұрын
Luckily with the Pure all you need to do is plug it into your router and an outlet, then you're off to the races. That said, look at my video on the start 9 embassy. Skip through the building part at the beginning and the steps will pick up where you're at.

no ROI info. doesnt address network security with this server. and my question: inst this hardware at the end of the day a free IPFS ?
@BTCSessions9 ай бұрын
There is no ROI... this is a personal server, not a miner.

This certainly sounds good too, but I think its still worth considering more reliable options like traditional businesses such as cannafarm ltd, for example.

Cool video! Id like to add that there are other investment options in businesses like cannafarm ltd as well.

Can you you just switch the hard drive that has your existing start9 os with the one in the pure system if its the same hard drive?
@Satoshi_Nguyen Жыл бұрын
Ben, if you buy a Mac Mini 2012 (16 GB RAM) that costs much less like 100 bucks. The performance is the same.
@BTCSessions Жыл бұрын
The difference here is the device in question is from purism, which goes to great lengths to make every aspect of the machine as open source as possible. They've even manually disabled the Intel management. If you were to buy parts on your own with the same specifications it would actually be more expensive because Start9 is able to get them in bulk.
@Satoshi_Nguyen Жыл бұрын
@@BTCSessions What I meant is that normal people could get a decent hardware for less like Mac Mini 2012 (16 GB RAM) and get the same performance. I synced the entire blockchain in less than 20 hours. What matters the most when running Bitcoin node and Lightning node is RAM. I tested with Raspberry Pi (2-8 GB), Mac Mini 2014. The more RAM you have the faster you sync. It also run more reliably with more RAM.
@BTCSessions Жыл бұрын
@@Satoshi_Nguyen indeed, you can definitely get way more bang for your buck out of something like a Mac mini in comparison to a pi! I love to see people repurposing old hardware for this kind of stuff :)

Hey Ben, I was under the impression that the downloadable stand alone software installed on a computer was virtually the same as the already put together product, so I took a 1 tb SSD and installed the downloadable file on a desktop i7, 32 gig ram and could not get the Start 9 to act as a server, the only products available were the ones provided by start9, I couldn't access any usb ports, no folders/files other than the ones provided by start9. I was stuck in firsfox, sort of, as an interface. So my question is, when you refer to this as a server, it really isn't, it's solely a BTC node software. I'm just a little confused as you didn't mention any of the capabilities of the Start9 software running on a computer, am I the only idiot that doesn't understand this?
@fondy442 ай бұрын
Did you ever find a solution for this? I thought someone said if you want to run StartOS on your own hardware you had to buy a license?

I dont know, dudes. I think crypto and all these ICOs are just a bubble. Well, crypto is good for transfers and so on, but I dont engage in trading and staking either. Its too risky. My friend recently lost $5000 there. I invest crypto in real business
