Great tutorial. PRO TIP: for Star Fox, make a copy of the rom file, rename it "Star Fox (OC Edition)." Then, set the CPU to overclock and save it as a content over-ride. That way the CPU setting will stay at 100% for **other** games, including Star Fox (in case you want to play it as it was on the original hardware), but it will play at its more natural-feeling sped-up pace when you launch the "OC Edition." It's like making the easiest rom-hack ever.

5:29 What the Mega Man widescreen example does is show me the perfect size to make classic looking sprites while still fitting them to a modern widescreen display. So many modern "retro" games just get that wrong and have all the sprites and graphics drawn way too small. THIS, however, is how they should look, with big chunky characters that allow you to actually see them properly and easily without having to squint. It's the same for the size of the text and stuff too. It's all sooo legible, unlike most modern games that make it sooo tiny--because it's all HHHDDD!!!--that you can hardly read it half the time.

If you want the sprites to go passed 4:3 in Mario Kart try turning on "widescreen sprites"

Retro arch just recently came back up within the last couple of months after they claimed to have been hacked. A lot of their cores havent been added back yet.

Star Fox runs at a steady 20fps on SNES according to the programmer of the game.

StarFox is too fast. Need a way to increase frames per second without increasing game speed. This is more like fewer seconds per frame.

Why do my SNES games look pixelated using default settings? They only look right when I shrink the resolution wayyy down. The shaders don't really hide the problem very well.

I don't get it... I downloaded the bsnes core today, made sure the mod is enabled, scale set to 4x, still looks pixely and crap. I'm testing this on super mario kart and nothing works. When I download the standalone emulator with the hd settings everything works, but the retroarch core doesn't. In fact I don't even have access to those widescreen settings either

10fps Star Fox SNES never bothered me. I didn't even knew that it was 10fps. Darn Frame Rate, you and your tricks. I also imagine it be glitchy in 60fps.

So the shaders for this thing, when it says "6x pass", that means upscaling right? Generally for a 4k TV? Meaning if I use a Steam deck, I probably want to drop the settings on any preset?

@@ArchadesGames Good. It's a pretty basic feature, and the only thing that makes it hard in Retroarch is the UI overlay thing. You cannot manually add a code, and that makes it tough to get the ones I write myself in.

Archades Games which ones doe I use for default ones I ha e tried some and when I use them then after that when I try to boot a ps1 game retroarch just crashes 🤷🏻‍♂️

@@aidanmulraney5484 I'm not entirely sure, but I think shaders only work with the Beetle PSX core, not the Beetle PSX HW one. I really like shaders that smoothen pixels, but draw sharp edges, so I would recommend either 6xBRZ or, my current favourite, scalefx-aa-fast. It's in the presets folder.

If you go to the settings tab on Retroarch then go to the control tab, enter port one binds and assign a hotkey to enable turbo buttons. You might need to hold the hotkey but it should give you the results you are looking for!
