My backhand is solid and preferred, but my forehand is weak and this video was extremely helpful. One of the best of viewed! The explanation and diagrams on grip was very helpful. Thanks much.

I prefer my backhand. I have a cut backhand that is notoriously lethal as a service return when I get it deep. So many of their 3rd shots go in to the net from the backspin I create. I also feel much more comfortable with a backhand side spin serve where I literally slash across the ball. I get it in consistently as well. My weakness is forehand cross court. Addicted to this game now! Have withdrawal when I don't play for a day! Once I learned the strategy of 3rd shot drops, resets, and topspin lobs instead of just driving my game improved immensely! Thanks for your help as well!

2:00 The way I've understood it, an inside out forehand also means that you direct the ball cross court after taking the forehand from the backhand side. You'll often hear of the "inside-in" forehand, which is when you run around your backhand and then proceed to hit the shot down the line.
@robertday5299

You are absolutely correct. Came here looking for this comment. There are not multiple meanings to inside out. Only the one that you described. Otherwise a good video. Not trying to undermine his credibility. He’s got some good info.

Excellent video! Love this channel.. the small one thing I would add (especially for beginners) is after footwork, just making sure to bend their knees on ground strokes. I see many make the mistake of "standing to tall" and the brush of top spin doesn't allow them to get under and behind the ball enough and it sails. That slight to moderate knee bend can make a world of difference! 🙂

Thanks for your videos! About the 2-handed BH--I only suggest using this style if the player already has already developed a reliable 2-hander in tennis. IMO, from scratch, a OHBH is always the best option to learn in PB!

Thanks for the excellent breakdown on forehands and backhands! I use continental grip on all my shots and the insight on grips was great! I’m going to experiment with eastern grip on my forehand drills and see if it makes a difference…thanks!

I love your videos. Thank you. I have come to the conclusion after 30 years of tennis and 4 years of pickleball that you really don't need to go to the side to hit an effective forehand. In fact by insisting on doing it there is no time and it messes me up. I think you're almost better and concentrating on planting your feet and planting them where they are. I would go so far as to say even if my right foot is more in front of my left foot and I'm a right-hander it's completely fine. I've tested this theory with a radar gun and it turns out to be pretty much the same no matter what my legs are as long as they are planted. What say you? I think this could revolutionize things. I don't think people need to turn anymore. As a matter of fact physically I think you're paddle has less movement and less chance of error if your right foot is closer to the net.. try it !

Great tips. Coming from a tennis background and making that mental switch has been challenging but in a good way. Just started two months ago. Definitely, they key is to just get out there and play with different player levels. Slowly and surely getting there. Thanks Connor

I'm at 3 1/2 months and try to play 4 times a week. I had to stop playing tennis to focus on the fundamentals of pickleball and the game is starting to "slow down" for me. It'll come for sure.. do great in your journey and just be patient with yourself, you have a great foundation for an awesome game!! 😊

In table tennis BH is my automatic/natural shot. In tennis and PB, FH is automatic. I switched to a 2BH in tennis 10 years ago ... glad I did because 2BH is perfect for doubles PB. Shorter reach isn't a liability and is great at the net for speedups. 1BH is still a classy shot in my book (i.e., Stan Wawrinka, Diane Parry).

Since you asked, I do prefer my backhand, largely because my forehand is deficient and not natural to me. I play left handed and I am mixed ambidextrous. I sometimes describe that as neurologically confused. My mixed ambidextrousness means that I throw, paddle, eat and write left handed but do everything else right handed. Right handed tasks include batting, mousing, golf, archery, long gun and pistol. I can bowl and box either way. On the whole, it’s a curse.

Great content, as always. And like you, my BH somehow feels more "natural". That said, I have a bad habit of taking my eye off the ball when the incoming ball will be an "easy" BH return. UGH. Any tips on how to break that habit. That costs me way too many points.

I feel like this technique only works if your short. I'm taller and having my paddle that far back causes my balls to hit the net or out. Even with topspin. I would have to get very low to swing that far back and keep a closed stance

why is a forehead or backhand drive explained any different than a return of serve(other than moving right toward the kitchen) which seems you would do in a drive as well??

In tennis the backhand grip you are using is an Eastern backhand grip to hit the drive or top spin backhand, it's not a continental grip.

I have a question. After a game, players go up to the net and greet each other saying "good game" and pad with paddles. I see so many people pad with grip end instead of paddle end. What is that about?
