Thanks for this so much never did one of these before but you made it look super easy. Recently he left joy con on the original steam deck started drifting driving me crazy so I ordered replacements and a kit

I'm happy after checking out my video that it helped you gain the confidence to do it yourself. I understand that feeling of the stick drift driving you crazy. I hope it goes super smooth with you. The huge thing to remember is removing the micro SD card if you have one. I've gotten so many comments that people have been rushing through the beginning of the video and they almost break their micro SD card. I do wish you the best of luck though but if you follow my steps you'll have your steam deck ready to go in no time

@@RetroRepairYT thank you so much I watched your video 10 times. Very first time ever opening up an electronic! It was a success the new controllers work great and again can play comfortably my first person shooters. Thank you again subscribed! Went exactly as per you video and made sure had the right screwdrivers. What really helped was the point to mention what the ribbon should look like when in.

Thanks for letting me know what happened and I am happy to hear all went well and I was able to help you out on a fix that you have not preformed yourself. What you did was very key though, watching and analyzing before you try anything. You very much have a good head on your shoulders. Thanks for the sub I do appreciate it. I am happy that ribbon part help because when I originally did it I felt that specific step could be miss understood quickly if not shown properly. I won my Steamdeck for less than 4 months and my left stick started drifting :( i really hope valve fixes it or compensate me in any way Needless to say I'm really really happy that repairing the sticks on the steam deck is way easier than fixing a joycon

@@RetroRepairYT after contacting Valve it turns out the game 'gunfire reborn' causes the drift and my deck is fine ( i really didn't knew that could happen )
@RetroRepairYT Жыл бұрын
@@carolusrex9138 interesting, then the steam deck updates will handle the fix eventually. Makes sense and its software base so someone coded it honestly anything can go wrong but can be fixed with a patch. Super happy to hear there is nothing wrong with your deck :)

If your steam deck has type B can you replace it with a type a?
@RetroRepairYT Жыл бұрын
I don't recommend it , you can lose the capacitance function of the sticks ( steamdeck will not sense you placing your thumbs on the analog sticks)

I just bought a steam deck in Mexico but the Y axis does not work (up and down movements) and I would not like to have to send it for service because I will have to spend on shipping. The X axis works well, the crosshairs, pad and external devices also work well. Do you think that the problem of lack of movement of the Y axis should be solved only by purchasing one set of sticks and installing it or could another part be involved in this problem?...please, if any of you can light me
@RetroRepairYT11 ай бұрын
from what your explaining it sounds like replacing the stick should fix your issue. In my option if the Steamdeck was not in a case prior to you purchasing it the sticks would be the first parts to fail on the hand held. Take for instance if the deck was placed in backpack and not secured properly another item in the backpack could bump the deck and damage a stick or a previous owner could have drop it in a back pack from the top of it and the momentum of the deck could have forced the stick to get snagged on something in the deck's path to the bottom of said backpack. Overall, now thinking this out I find it a very high possibility that changing out the sticks will fix your issue.

The page has two options to buy, type a and b, how do I know which one to buy?
@RetroRepairYT2 ай бұрын
I got you, to understand which replacement thumbsticks you need, navigate to Settings → System → Steam Deck Controller ID. If the Controller ID starts with “MEDA”, that device uses a Type A thumbstick, then this joystick is perfect for you. If the Controller ID starts with “MHDA”, that device uses a Type B thumbstick.

@RetroRepairYT Жыл бұрын
These are a direct replacement from ifixit. I don't remember that button being on the joystick board. On the other hand I do remember them being on the hall effect sensor version of the joysticks. If there is a button on the direct replacement sticks from ifixit. I did not calibrate them on when installing the new sticks
@arnie7975 Жыл бұрын
@RetroRepairYT Thanks for replying! Sorry I didn't clarify where the buttons are located, it is more to the side next to where the ribbon is. It's a very small button where you need a pointy object to press it. But I'll try your way.
