You're getting good at this. Removing white from the lens flare's color palette is not a good idea however. That's the default color of most light in the environment because it all combines from different sources. This is what's causing that extreme color banding in brighter scenes and off street lamps. There should also be a way to only show certain color bands so certain things in the environment pop out through the grayscale like the red dress in that example you showed. We might be looking at the wrong filter for that, but I'm pretty sure you can do it

I have to confess my dislikes for this video, no matter how much I like the channel. The comic filter and the outlines are too much. It makes it so the crosshair on the top of the smg is too black. It makes it look like a children game with unnecessary blood. The black and white filter added in the end. Way too much. Way. The hands and weapon pop, *too* much. I would have just made it extra dark. This stage was completely unnecessary. The blur on the sky whatever level is too much. You can’t see the skybox. The lens flare is too bright and too large on the screen. Needless to say, this has a *lot* of highs and lows. Recommendations : Mombasa streets could be darker. Recommendations : data hive gameplay would’ve been nice. Recommendations : shrink the lens flare and make it less bright. Recommendations : remove borderlines filter. Recommendations : *please* remove the black and white filter! Just a note : the borderlines filter makes the grass look all burnt. Recommendations : the filter that makes the screen look pixely should be removed in my opinion, makes it hard to see and I checked if my video quality was right, and it was, but it looked like it was bad. Recommendations : make the smg lights brighter and make weapon lights brighter. I liked everything else, thanks for reading.

It does use the same exact engine but they tweaked the coding a bit differently and upgraded animation and such for ODST the reason some things feel and play differently it because they changed the game a bit since your an ODST and not master chief or the arbiter so you'd be less capable and balanced the game so you wouldn't be completely useless as an ODST

@@joshpaulson9607 its a bit tricky with a real eye a) you'd need like a point light source so you might see it at night if your driving or walking and looking at street lights, but more importantly b) the effect (called bokeh) is an out of focus effect, and so as soon as you look at the light source your eye muscles change your eye lens curvature and you focus (cameras with autofocus do this as well, but they are much slower than a real eye). So you'd have to deliberately avoid looking at at the light source and try to notice it in your peripheral vision which is hard to do. So if you could take a still frame of what your eye was seeing, you'd be able to see it much easier.

I just want to say: this has always been a rather comforting channel for me. Whenever I'm feeling a little down or just don't know what to do, I can boot up one of your Reshade, opinion-based, or just-fucking-around videos and have a blast. The videos where you tell stories about your personal experience with this franchise and how you relate to it are some of my favorite. But this video right here will always be my favorite. Sometimes it's because I'm having a day. Sometimes because I want inspiration for my own Reshade-induced fuckery with other games. And sometumes just because I absolutely adore those Atmospheric and Noire presets you made, and love watching them in action. I've been on a bit of a Noir kick recently, and I'm thinking about replaying ODST after I finish Reach again, so I might have to do my best to replicate one of these. By the way, while it's not your usual brand on this channel, if you or anyone else reading this want a suggestion on games to toy around with Reshade for, Bioshock: Infinite is fantastic for this purpose. Despite it's flaws, it has none in the graphics department, and I love just messing around with it. I particularly like applying a "rosy" filter for the outdoor or cheerier areas of Columbia, especially those first few levels, by messing with Bloom, Sepia, and some other filters to give it a bright, rich, and airy feel. Tweaking the warm colors to pop more with sepia or something else really helps enhance the vibes of those first few levels. Once you try it out, you can't go back. It also suprisingly works extremely well with the CRT filter. While it might not seem apparent, as I'm praising it for its wonderful pre-existing visuals, though it makes it harder to appreciate the beauty of Colubmia, CRT just feels great to play in for that game, for all of the levels, but especially the beginning section and Finkton. I'm pretty sure any game can have it's combat improved by having enemy pixels partially lost in the scanline, especially B:I.

1). The first pre-set was amazing, just perfect. It emphasizes the atmosphere of ODST and brings it look to the modern age. By far my favorite out of the group. 2). Your E3 demo look was good with the touched up lighting, but the Depth of Field was too strong. Made it feel as if Romeo was walking around with his eyes focused on the barrel of his gun compared to being focused on his surroundings. I would suggest either shifting the DoF to blur out objects that are closer to the player and make short to medium range objects in focus, or just dial the effect back a bit. 3). The only thing holding the cell shaded pre-set back is the muddled details of distant objects. Beside that issue, everything else was perfect. 4). CRT is an awesome effect, though it looked too strong. As if I was sitting too close to the TV, I would suggest dial the effect back just a bit to where you lose the up close pixilation and get more of a defined blur. 5). Noir fits ODST beautifully, my only critique would be to give it more of Schindler's List feel. Where everything is black and white but key colors stand out like the reds and greens. Overall, you have done a fantastic job at bringing a new and exciting feel to ODST. These are my opinions on what could improve your pre-sets, but in the end they are yours since you -unfortunately- can't share these. Keep up the amazing content, can't wait to see what you do next.

The cartoon filter is at the precipice of hurting my eyes. It's ever-so slightly grating, but not eye-destroying. It just looks unnatural in Halo. I'm biased because I do NOT like Borderlands. For the CRT one, to make it better you should go in the MCC setting and manually make the game render in 4/3 480p, it makes it the right aspect ration and since it's not 1080p foutage being pixelated but native 480p foutage, the UI would be looking fine, like a the game was made for and running off of an original XBox, also, for the CRT effect, the colors should probably be shifted and tweaked a bit, CRT screens tend to have less true colors than LCD screens, especially NTSC ones, if you go for a PAL screen effect, you want to slow the frame rate down to 50fps instead of 60, maybe throw in the effect you used for the first one to make the darks more ark and brights more bright as I personally feel like LCD screens flatten the lighting of older games when playing retro consoles, I remember Metroid Prime on the Game Cube having Darker dark places and the lighter areas being a bit more washed out in light for exemple. PS: Watching the Noire preset, it gave me an idea for Halo 4, play the fore runner mission, the one where you wake up the Didact. make it black and white, and orange, like, the orange of the fore runner tech, the projectiles of their weapons, the lava and the lights on the ennemies, that's the only color, the rest gets turned into shades of gray, then add some ray tracing reflections so the metalic parts act like little wet mirrors, you know, like when people trying to get Marty McFly's ray tracing to turn their favorite games into RTX demoes and go way too hard on it, but here, it's not to be realistic E3 style, but to reinforce the stylisation and how much orange there's on the screen in the now reflective metalic areas.

I liked the borderlands one? Bit disappointing to hear you talk less, i like your inputs on how the gameplay is making you feel.

While making my own ODST shader (thank you for introducing me to Reshade, by the way) I stumbled across a way to use lens dirt to balance the VISR you have ingame - because the lens dirt is so high and bright, using VISR intensifies it to the point that it is hard to use in areas with singular, bright sources of light - effectively nerfing it so you aren't just wandering around every Mombasa Streets level with VISR cranked up.

Please never “shut up and let the graphics do the talking” ever again. I watch your vids specifically for the over embellished descriptions. Keep on keepin on! 👍🏼👍🏼

The first preset made it look like battlefield 3. And the hex filter is just bokeh, usually in low light conditions the aperture of a camera lens or our eyes will open up, allowing more light into the sensor. The light that is out of focus will be take on the shape of whatever aperture the lens it set at. A 1.4 aperture will be wide open, the bokeh will be circular. A 11 aperture will be closed and depending on the amount of aperture blades inside the lens, the bokeh will be some polygonal shape Edit: Whoops my bad, flare and bokeh are two SEPARATE optical occurrences, aperture still affects both

I've been using Reshade with some of the games I play and for the most part I love it. It amazing to me to be able to modify and enhance the graphics and atmosphere of a game I'm playing and just like you i've been using it with Halo. One problem I've ran into though is the ambient occlusion. The depth-buffer works and the shadows match the models on screen, but it will inappropriately shade the models like putting shadows on flat, open parts of my weapon and the environment or wanting to shade the sky no matter how I tune the fade distances. This is a problem with all the games on mcc for me but mostly 3 and in turn ODST. I also have similar problems with the SSR effect. Did you run into this problem as well? If so what was your solution. Am I missing a setting in the depth buffer? Keep up the great videos as well man!

As soon as I saw him walking around with the Reshade filter I started yelling "THATS GOREOUS!"

Dann you didn’t have to eternally ruin vanilla ODST for me! Seriously though good job, stuff looks stunning. Amazing how much of a difference it makes
