Mea Culpa is a Latin phrase that means "through my fault" and is an acknowledgement of having done wrong. The expression is used also as an admission of having made a mistake that should have been avoided. The phrase comes from a prayer of confession of sinfulness, known as the "Confiteor", used in the Mass in the Roman Rite at the beginning by the priest to prepare for Mass or when the congregation is preparing to receive the sacrament of Penance.

Hello from France Dereck ! You're definitely going into a new unique sonic world by discovering Enigma. Did you know the 2 songs you've reacted to are part of the 1st album that stayed more than 200 weeks in the US billboard ? More than 15 million copies were sold worldwide. Finally Michael Cretu's talent was getting known everywhere far beyond his own attempts. You've got so much to explore with the other albums : 8 in total so far with over 100 million copies sold. Well deserved for a new genre that indeed inspired so many productions later on and eventually gained a game changing reputation within the electro music industry. And yes, Sandra who was married to Michael for 25 years provided this magnetic spoken singing ;-)

Enigma is classified as consisting of New Age, Pop, and Rock genres. This is Track 3, on the Enigma album MCMXC a.D. ("1990"). [Track 3] I strongly urge you find the CD and listen from beginning to end, without stopping. They? ... Other than Sandra's vocals, everything you hear is Michael Cretu. Despite the different tracks sounding like they have a different rhythm, the entire track has one underlying rhythm. There is no break between tracks on most Enigma albums.

Album after Album, Chapter after chapter, Enigma produces incredible and as you say "masterful" songs. As the story of the albums unfold there are always musical throwbacks and interludes that connect you to previous albums. Michael Cretu is the genius behind Enigma. The songs take on a multilayered meaning when they are listened to in the context of the whole story that Enigma is telling, and that means in their contexts within the albums from which they come and also when later albums use snippets of songs for their new albums. You're right... Michael borrows from various cultures around the world, Native American chant, Gregorian chant, Maori tribal music, Mongolian chants, etc ... all makes his albums so much better. He's telling the story of humanity through the eyes of one who is not human, then moved beyond that in a later album to reflecting what humanity has learned in time but also how much farther we have to go. America just missed Enigma and continues to in general. I have loved Enigma from the first album to the latest and always look forward to the next chapter in the unfolding story. Check out the video for "Amen" the song and video are both phenomenal!!!

Hi Dereck, another Great Reaction .. As a 49 year old German Guy i Grew up with Arabesque (A trio of women in which Sandra won her spurs, especially in Japan they were the MEGASTARS). Of course then also Sandra Solo and of course I heard immediately when Enigma started from 0 to 1 at the German Charts and it was on the radio for the first time that it MUST be Sandra! It was also kind of a scandal because the moaning from her was a "revolution" just as Michael wanted to keep it anonymous. Nobody should know that he and Sandra were behind it. But it came out quickly and the hype really started! It WAS Michael's dream to create something completely new and he spent a long time in his studio in Ibiza doing it. Enigma means Riddle and so he called himself Curly MC. Michael didn't like this big hype about himself because it influences his musical creativity (interviews, performances etc.) Enigma is a pure studio project in which he uses different styles of music, languages and samples to combine something new and unique. Every single song is a masterpiece. I would advise you to proceed chronologically because you will experience a journey of development. Each album is a creation of sounds and vocals that immediately cast a spell and the sound burns into your brain! I could say so much about Michael Cretu, Sandra and Enigma and the many other projects, but that would take hours. For me and millions of others he is a kind of god who always creates something new. As I said, proceed chronologically, look at the documentation from 1987, in which there are insights into the private life and work of the two, among other things you can also see why he chose Curly MC :-) kzbin.info/www/bejne/jIaoe3mEi9GGqbs Here is something more current from 2020 from Michael for the 30th anniversary of Enigma. kzbin.info/www/bejne/a5-ld4WfgbRoZq8 Have fun on your further journey and best regards from Germany

Been massive Enigma fan since I heard Sadeness part 1. They're second only to Jean Michel Jarre for me. Sandra does work on most of the Enigma material, and she happens to be Michael's ex-wife. (Great taste in women!) Yes, most of the records are use of samples from every corner of the globe, and one thing I found out from the Enigma website, is that Enigma mastermind Michael Cretu has been in court more than once for use of copyright material. Shame I think. But he does use them so well! Just wait until you hear the rest of Enigma's music. It's spiritual, profound, haunting, erotic and sexy and it really reaches into your soul and lifts you. Please do more.
