Thank you for addressing these conditions. I was not aware of them until I saw your videos.

I've seen your other videos. I think you're fair in how you address the subjects. You have strong opinions, but you never come out and say what your audience MUST do. It's left in their hands, which is fair. Good job presenting these two neurological diseases that so greatly effect the geckos quality of life.

I got an enigma rehomed to me (I think I sent you a photo of him years ago) and I've been very lucky that his issues have gotten better the longer I've had him, but I think its due to the lower stress environment. These videos are so important. Keep it up. ❤

Thank you for making this video and explaining the differences between the two syndromes. I got a pretty young gecko back in November and she recently started showing signs of ES in the last month. I wasn't aware of the Enigma gene nor of ES (MBD was the only thing I knew about) but this opened my eyes to her condition.

Thank you so much for this video! I am SO sorry that you receive negative comments from people about this type of video! I respect what you do and your videos have helped me greatly even though I do not yet have a leopard gecko in my care. Soon! I have a few setups which are growing in (again thanks to your videos for helping me pass the arid tank hurdle) and two that are base-bottom. Will be able to add arid species to my list of rescue after an upcoming move. Thank you, a hundred times over, thank you!!!

Hey Jessica 😊, in your experience would you say that deep heat projector and low wattage uva/uvb lighting are okay for morphs such as Tremper Albinos. 🦎 Another great informative video.

I think it’s gonna be different in each gecko but it’s worth trying! The DHP is great either way

@@JessicasAnimalFriends Thank you, I thought I would ask as you have a wide range of morphs in your care. I have added DHP's to all my vivariums except two now. Wherever there is a DHP there is a splooted Gecko 💜🦎💜 when the lights go off. My two Tremper Albinos have a DHP and they spend some time under it at lights out, not as long BUT they are still small and settling in to their new forever home.

On this day I realized that my Enigma angel, Opal (who is also W/Y) has really bad W/Y syndrome, rather than Enigma syndrome. 🙃😭 My poor wobbly angel.

Great video! It’s so unfortunate that we humans breed these animals with neurological problems and other issues. People should be more educated on how breeding certain animals are unethical, not just with reptiles but also dogs,cats, rodents etc.

It kills me to see animals in discomfort, for some reason i am still shocked that people will breed animals that has a good chance for a bad quality of life.

I'm trying to figure out if one of my hatchlings it's Enigma or W&Y. Although I don't breed Enigmas (or Lemon Frost), I do have a W&Y. Now, I haven't breed the W&Y on this couple, but I did breed a couple of Sunglows (that should be completely fine). And I got a SHTCT and a "very bright Sunglow" that has OBVIOUS neurological damage. Now, the reason why I think it's Enigma it's because the breeder HAS had Enigmas in the past years (2011 to 2014) and got rid of them because of the syndrome (made very different to maintain around 700 leopard geckos, he said). Nowadays it's assumed that he doesn't keept any Enigma, but this baby is literally checking ALL enigma syndrome symptoms. What I think it might have happened (because I know for sure he's not breeding Enigmas anymore) it's that either he passed one of his older "not so evident" enigmas (maybe even by mistake), or got "new blood" from somewhere else (he does that to avoid inbreeding) and one of the animals that was new had some very mild Enigma and passed like a normal SHTangerine or Sunglow. And to be honest? I don't know what to do about this baby. it's circling around continuously, had to put him on a separate smaller container because he's a week old and it's so worked up by food or calcium that will unwillingly bite the plastic cap or try to bite it's brother if he's passing around. I don't usually separate them until they're two weeks old because I only keep two and very well feed, but this baby is literally a mess. Colors are stunning, even the eyes are like this seriously golden red (not ruby nor albino), but I don't think I can take care of him for the rest of his life, and I don't know people in my country who might be willing and actually well prepared to take care of him. I've been told by all breeders in my country that I should just put it down so ""I get rid of the problem"", yet it's not like it's a suffering animal that won't make it to adult, with the right care he should have a life worth living, and color wise it's very beautiful. So it just doesn't feel right to just toss him in the freezer... I've literally recovered Leo's who had their guts out, what do you think I should do?

I have a crested gecko that has similar symptoms and she is getting better with age. Do these conditions carry on to crested geckos?
@JessicasAnimalFriends
@JessicasAnimalFriends 2 жыл бұрын
No. Crested geckos can have brain trauma or malnourishment that can cause similar symptoms, but as far as I know there are no neurological conditions in the genetics of crested geckos (an exception might be lily whites but I’m not sure and if you had a lily white you’d know)

Why does the enigma morph not corelate to a specific phenotype where as the other confirmed morphs do?
@JessicasAnimalFriends
@JessicasAnimalFriends 2 жыл бұрын
The enigma morph is a genetic mutation characterized by small sporadic spots either in a clump/s, a white or purple tail usually without markings, enhanced coloring. Babies are born with blotches rather than bands. Often when an enigma is pared with another morph it can enhance the characteristics of the other morph. Bc enigmas have been crossed with LOADS of morphs, they all look quite different. For example, in the video I showed an enigma x super snow, Eddard, a tangerine enigma, gilly, an enigma x mack snow x bell albino eclipse, melisandre. And they all look quite different from one another for this reason.

Thank you for this honestly, I still have to take them to a vet, but I kind of suspect the my new gecko may have W&Y syndrome?? But I also do not want to diagnose it myself, it could be that they have vision problems, it could be anything. They just seem to be really unbalanced and lunges forward quite a bit. For all I know, maybe they’re just scared? This is the first time I’ve had a baby.

Totally get what you’re saying about don’t claim the title if you’re not sure of the morph, but I know yours are from rehoming, so how do you know yours are enigmas? I have a very clear enigma morph but cannot say cuz it was rehomed and not from a breeder, so technically I can’t say he’s an enigma then? Even if he has the morph pattern and all the clear signs of the syndrome. The old owner said he was an enigma, but they got it from their brother as a rehome, so again not a right from the breeder confirmed.
@JessicasAnimalFriends
@JessicasAnimalFriends 2 жыл бұрын
They were surrendered to be from breeders. If you know the morph that’s fine. I’m mostly speaking about people who buy theirs from pet stores and then just assume morphs.

Hi :) You know I like you, but can I ask about 1 important thing? Why take care of animals that have such problems? I know someone who should definitely keep alive 2 leos with such similar diseases. They died by themselves. I'm sad
@JessicasAnimalFriends
@JessicasAnimalFriends 2 жыл бұрын
The enigmas & white and yellow geckos do not have diseases, they have disabilities. In some cases, it is more humane to euthanize, particularly in situations of metabolic bone disease. There comes a time for every pet owner when euthanasia must be considered, and the disabled leos are no different. If I notice their quality of life decrease it will be that time. Currently, they all eat on their own. Shed on their own. Have bowel movements on their own. If those things become difficult or impossible for the disabled geckos, then that time will come.
