Good tutorial, from someone who got the game when it originally released. Are you planning on tutorials covering different areas? Trade, crafting, leveling? They have made so many changes that makes it different from the game I originally played. And like you said there aren’t many people covering it anymore.

Great video! However, I would like to point out few things in it. On 4:24, you have decided to raise your sail, but this is unnecessary as you could yard sails parallel to the wind. This will prevent the square sails from catching wind, consequently reducing heeling. This is refered as luffing or stalling the sails. However, it is important to note that your ship was not heeling at the monent you got the leaks; It is showing 0 degrees the whole time. Enemy just timed it perfectly with the waves. After the leak on 4:50, you start repairing, but repairing hulls do not include patching holes. Holes can only be patched by Emergency crew assignment, and there will be about 4 people assinged per leak, and this is evident as normally your ship can assign 100 for emergency crew, but after 19 leaks, you got 73 more positions available; 73/19=3.8. Also when fully assigned, the holes take full 60 seconds to patch. In this case it took around 90 seconds as you allocated some time on newly assigning possition. Also just another tip just in case, and this is especially the case for faster ships, is that when you make your sails parallel to the wind to slow yourself down, make sure that the point or purpose is to make your speed 0 knot fast, not to make your sail parallel to wind. AKA in most cases you still travel at 1~3 knots when square sails are parallel to wind, due to your spankers pushing forward and also take time to reach that speed, too; Backwind your sails to decelerate. Otherwise I am very facianted on how you delievered information so effectivly and engagningly! Keep up the good work!

From Mach 1 to Mach .01 is quite a transition. Positioning upwind was known as having the “weather gage”, the primary advantage being maneuvering options. The enemy exposing his hull below the water was an advantage, but the combination of heel and waves might require the upwind ship to close the ports on his lower gundeck. Not a lot of wind or waves in this engagement.

One other thing I forgot to mention, if you get leaked, you can heel your ship so hard and make the holes come out of the water so you stop taking in more water. Sort of counter intuitive but makes sense.

Keep in mind that some balls will hit the water. So you need to have a critical mass of enough guns to be able to plop some in the water while enough make it through to make a leak. It gets easier when yo uget more guns

Does cannon penetration and double charge increases probability of shots causing a leak?

Some people have told me it can help. I think I noticed double charge could pen the water better. But a week or two ago, I stopped using the double shot perk and noticed that I was still getting leaks consistently. At this time, I do not think shot type or cannon size matters for leak, its just how many you get. For cannon penetration, I would imagine this helps but I haven't noticed enough to see a difference.

Is there anyway to go over techniques since they made changes to combat this last year? I didn’t play since November of 23, and seems like so much has changed, including how hard it is to capture anything 3rd rate and lower now. I used to get leaks constantly as well and now it’s just impossible it seems.

why did you start a hull repair at 5:00? To my knowledge it doesnt help with leak repair, but maybe they changed this.

I'd be interested in seeing if this could potentially help a smaller ship punch above its rate. For instance: could a 6th rate, if they were squirrelly enough, quickly sink a top tier 5th rate such as an Endymion or a Trincomalee? Both have very high roll angles and both would obliterate a 6th rate normally. But what if they sailed it like Captain Jack Sparrow?

It's harder to do in a smaller ship because you don't have enough guns to punch enough holes in enough time. Some shots WILL hit the water and then not connect.

Leaks are broken now, you can make leaks to ship with 0 sails and zero speed.

There is a reason this game is not documented well on youtube. The Devs treated loyal players like children and did not listen nor respect any feedback we gave. they eventually killed off 80% of the player base with the amount of game breaking changes they always went back and forth on. I would have thought you would have been filled in on this as the Devs are actually worse than ED! lol

Yeah I heard. The game is still fun despite the bad history. It seems like people are enjoying what the devs have been doing as of late and the population is rebounding back

I played the beta and enjoyed it quite a lot, but the game itself didn't make any sense after that.
