One thing that is incorrect with the 21 compared to the real jet is the ease of the engine quitting . We never ever had such a high rate is engine stalls even with high stress combat maneuvering...... Do you carry the R-3R as well on a sortie like I do or you stick to the R-60M's ?

@@conan670431 When you say we, were you a Mig-21 pilot? If so, there is a rework going on the Mig-21 so may be interesting for you to link up with that team to be a SME. I carry one R-3R.

@@Enigma89 Not a 21 pilot ( only had a ride in the back seat once) but let say very familiar with the 29. The guys flying the 21's were not reporting such a high level of flameouts and we were flying Bis version that we do have in DCS with some improvements to the engine that supposed to reduce that risk. I had a chat with a 21 guy about an year ago and in his 23 years in the Fishbed he only had 5 engine restarts performed of wich one was a bird injestion and he managed to rtb on all ocasions. So around 2600hrs clocked in all weather and sorties and only 5 events .... I take DCS as it is as I told ED that the Fulcrum does not pop up tyres at 300 kph and even at 330kph on a full load and the bird is still stable when touch down ad 250kph whete in DCS it drops like a rock .... but they have their ways..... Just here to enjoy it and I certanly enjoy your content and looking forward to fly on the Syria cold war conflict :)

The Mirage F-1 is going to be a really nice addition to the cold war servers . I personally haven't joined yet but your videos convinced me and together with the F-1 I will join the cold war DCS community.

The F1 will also have a plethora of mission types available to it. In the MiG-21, the only thing you can really do is air-to-air. The F1, while very good at air-to-air, will have a very strong air-to-ground ability. It *should* have the ability to carry four 1000lbs bombs, two 2000lbs bombs, two 1150L drop tanks, and two Magics/Sidewinders. Of course that isn’t a practical load, but it’s possible. And the F1EE will have the same load, but with more precise bomb delivery, and probably anti-ship weapons.

The F1 also seems to have a VERY detailed suite of failures and mechanical system. So it’ll be a great challenge to actually fight with the F1.

@@rhysgoodman7628 Indeed the Atar 9k50 needs to be treated nicely . The Mirage F-1 has a lot of potential in AtA and AtG . I haven't heard anything about the AM-38 Exocet but it would be a wonderful inclusion , tasmo strikes together with the viggen are going to be awesome .

@@rhysgoodman7628 I disagree a bit on that. The Mig-21 is surprisingly good at air-to-ground. It can carry bombs, clusters, rockets, gunpods, illumination flares and the beam riding grom missile for ships and hardened targets and even a freakin' tactical nuke. I know most people take it out for air-to-air, but it's by no means a slouch when it comes to killing things on the ground.

Very good fight you guys had, the most important advice for MiG flyers is to be less conservative with fuel, the lower your fuel state the better the plane will behave. I like to say that a 21 with less than 2000 liters is a 4th Gen plane IF you are not very heavy on the stick. It's nice to have someone to fly with that does the right thing at the right time. Great video as usual, keep it up.

Any chance of creating Mig-21 tutorials or tips for begginers? Because of you I got this module and I'm having some hard time learning it. Great video as always, the mix of 3rd person and 1st person shots are incredible! I bet it took a lot of work, but it was totally worth it!

There are complete series of mig tutorials, breaking down all the systems and how to operate them. Want to stress out grim reapers series. They are quite too long, so don't watch whole series, but only videos about systems you have problems with. And on this channel there are some videos with mig21 tips for multiplayer

I try not to make tutorials that talk about process because I feel like other people do that and I don't really like making those videos. What I try to focus on is taking a concept and then showing it being applied. For the Mig-21 I have a R3R video and a flat turning video.

Very very impressive flying. Thanks for sharing! I’m still struggling with just seeing bandits at all. The weird thing is that in SP I can spot bandits at 10-20km relatively easily. MP? It’s at least 20:1 getting shot down while never having seen a bloody thing. Tacview shows they were right in front of me, crossing my nose. Saw nothing. :(

If you're in 1440p, go to 1080p. It's unfortunate, but higher resolutions completely borks spotting in DCS atm.

@@Enigma89 Both. Overlord initially, but Textalord since it was introduced. Textalord is fantastic - super helpful, but I can’t figure out a keybind for it on the HOTAS, so it gets me close to a merge and then its Mk 1 Eyeball time. That’s where I’ve been struggling. Tacview will show aircraft right smack in my field of view that I just never see. I would simply chalk it up to being new and not having uncorrected 20/20 vision anymore, but SP I manage just fine. ‘Git gud’ seems to be the consensus. :/ I’m trying!

exactly my issue. I've never tried the 1080p thing that you guys are talking about so I'll try that. Can't say for certain, but I think a big part of the issue is not knowing what altitude to look at for me. I'm trying to practice recognizing what 1k, 2k, 3k, etc feet agl looks like to help narrow down where I need to search from BRAA calls. I feel like it's hopefully going to help, and I bet if you are having a similar issue that might help so that way you can zoom in further

That was a pretty damn good sortie. Nice to see man, I need more inspiration on how to fight with the mig-21. Currently I just start by going vertical and then just simply try to get in the bandit. No thought if one circle or two circle, no specific plan in mind at all.

I'm confused. it called the two tigers as merged but they only merged after 5-10 seconds of flying? I've been turning instantly upon seeing the tripwire, should I be waiting a bit?

You are doing that out of habit because of the default DCS awacs system which calls things so late. A merge is defined as a contact being within 5nm from you. Because Overlord is more reliable in prioritizing target call outs, you should expect them to be in front of you if the BRA is in that direction.

@@Enigma89 Even more precisely "merge" is defined as "so close contacts merged into single blip on the radar and can't be distinguished anymore", the distance vary and depends on radar resolution of the AWACS/GCI radar and the range from the target. The further AWACS/GCI radar is the longer distance between two aircrafts is a called "merge". DCS AWACS is greatly simplified at this moment though. Cheers, great server!

Learning one modern module is a very interesting journey as you get really dive deep in something so I would not dissuade you from stopping. I would just encourage you to be curious as you are now being and to come join us and compare and contrast your modern sorties vs cold war.

I don't really like flying the F-5 that much, when I play blue I usually fly the Viggen. The F-5 never really sparked joy for me, it is my least played module on the server i think.

The Syria map will come again, we rotate when the campaigns end. In order to make sure we keep ourselves at pop, we rotate maps to make it accessible to people who don't have Syria. My hope is that as people start to like the server, they will buy Syria.

At first it was looking at the AoA indicator but over time and holding the stick in the same position, you start to get a feeling where you know how much AoA you are pulling. tldr, practice. :)

How do you feel about the R-3R on the MiG-21Bis? I find it incredibly difficult to use, not the functions of launch envelope, locking and maintaining said lock; but more so actual missile performance. In theory, it should give the MiG-21 more punching power with more range. Everytime I launch this POS missile it goes dead half the time and the other half is just the missile improperly tracking the target. I’ve seriously gotten a single kill with it in MP. Worth taking, or just bring more R13M’s or R-60M’s?

You talk to Overlord via SRS. It listens and then turns it into a form that a computer can understand then talks back to you over srs.

@@davidryanlawrencd There is no limitation on carrying double racked R-60s on bis, this isn't War Thunder where Gaijin just make whatever bullshit up for "balance" or to nickel and dime the players harder. In fact, Polish 21s even had indigenous double racks for R-3 family missiles - the bis could carry those, but they aren't modelled in DCS as nobody else used them.

F-5 equal to the Mig 21? 2 missiles vs. 4 missiles. Your fight would have been over if only 2 missiles. M2000C vs. Mig 21.is a fair fight. Good vid…love the server, tired of being outclassed…always fun in virtual!

Two P5's are a lot more reliable than four R60M's, imo. And the missiles are only part of it. In particular, the F5 being able to uncage it's P5's is a huuuuuge point in it's favor. They each have their own strengths, but I'd say they're one of the best/closest matchups there is.

Also f5 have better cockpit ergonomic and visibility, and in the merge you'll need them

The Mig21 I think is a bit better than the F5. I think the Mirage F1 will be a closer match to the 21 bis... If you think the 2000C is a fair fight against a 21, you're smoking rocks
