Enjoy a Christmas baked pasta pie called pasticcio di cappelletti! | Pasta Grannies

This baked pasta is the ultimate once a year labour of love! A pie filled with cappelletti, ragu, and béchamel. It's a favourite with the family of Andrea, my cameraman. I think it has its roots in recipe of the nearby city of Ferrara called 'pasticcio di pasta alla ferrarese'. It's a variation on timballo, and it's a splendid change from lasagna.

Three out of my four grandparents immigrated to America from Italy. I grew up at the local Italian hall helping the little old Italian ladies roll meatballs before they deep fried them. I love it.

The Greeks make a bechamel pasta bake called pasticchio .. interesting recipe

I was just thinking that too; the Greek version is less fussy, made with rigatoni or penne and without the addition of the pastry dough. Probably introduced by Italians to Greece.

I think you missed the part of the video where they explained Stefano's mother got the recipe from a local restaurant. So it's obviously a local or even regional dish, not just a family dish.
