Arduino Tutorial 16- How to use a PS2 Joystick in a Project

Hello. How is it possible that at 45 degrees it gets values 0 and 0 of both axis? It is not at maximum range in any of the axis. I want only value 0 if it is fully turned in x axis and no movement in y axis

where did you get this joystick because the ones I got have bad potentiometer ranges. the right and bottom right corner are x = 1024 and y =1024. this joystick you have looks like it reads a lot better.
