for new Japanese learner, チ(chi) and テ(te) is pretty hard to distinguish sometime. The trick is whenever you read it in katakana, always try to convert it into English in your head. Teki doesn't sound English, chiki is closer to chicken thus you probably can guess that you read it wrong if it happens like Enna

Tbh, “regular” thing might have been understandable to the supervisor guy cuz people working at stores usually hear various accents, but, I don’t really think anyone would understand if anyone comes up to the cashier and asks for a “teki“… By the way, in Lawson the fried chicken is named “L-chiki“, “Fami-chiki” in Family Mart, and “Nana-chiki” in Seven-Eleven. Most people would call them by these names instead of just “chiki”, which probably made it more difficult to the people at the cashier to link “teki” to the “L-chiki (eruchiki)”.

But ya, i believe she technically was going for one of the other crispy chickens if it wasn't just straight labeled fami-chiki so prob still wouldn't of gotten her what she wanted anyways if she asked for the fami-chiki.

I had a similar issue where I was told to read a passage and, since the entire class is a beginner at Japanese, the words that were originally in Katakana was swapped with Hiragana. But I'm already comfortable with Katakana so I literally kept rereading "あぷり" in the wrong tones because I didn't realise it was "アプリ". Spent a good 3 minutes on that word before my sensei read the passage again and noticed and it still haunts me to this day. At least now i know I'm not alone on this 😭

Tbh as someone who's grilled and sold chicken and bbq its probably been sitting in the heat since early morning untill late afternoon so it tastes bad. They taste good for like the first 6 hours any longer and they start degrading more and more and eventually have this weird sub-taste. If its been standing untill late evening in the grill 100c+ for idk 12-14 hours. It tastes absolutely ASS. Problem is its not a "health" concern so its allowed. Yeah i know, its gross as fuck. So if your buying bbq like ribs/chicken make sure they grilled it recently.

One time I was talking to the dude at the register who looked like a foreigner and he asked me a question in Japanese and I just stared and thought, “sir, you are as dark as the chicken adobo my mom made last week, I know your ass speak English, stop playing with me” After making a gesture of a plastic bag I glared and said yes, received the food and went on my way feeling a-bit more awake and realized, not everyone speaks English dumbass 😅.
