This is great! I’m an 8, but I don’t identify with being exposed as a weakness. I think as an 8 it’s opposite, I have to be true “authentic” I hate small groups that are surface. I want to dive in and go deep and give other permission to go deep. Also I have lots of mercy, because I desperately need it. Maybe because I’ve become a healthy 8 over time with a whole lot of Jesus of course.
@leahrhay98816 жыл бұрын
As a fellow 8, I thought as you did, until I realized that I can be completely open with the things I have fully processed. Once it's processed, no one can touch it and that is when I desire depth and authenticity. However, if I am in the middle of processing and it still feels tender, I am VERY protective of who I allow into that space because I realize it's still very raw. It's still authentic, it has to go deep, but there are extra tender places that it can take years for me to trust a person with-most other 8s are the same. I don't know if that resonates at all, but hope it helps to expand a bit.

Sophia Murillo Hi! I’m a fellow 8. This could be bc you’re a higher functioning 8 or bc you’re around people you are comfortable with. When he says “exposed” it’s short for “exposed to harm”, 8’s go to great lengths to protect themselves and their group/team/family, etc. If you don’t see sharing your softness w others it’s probably bc you don’t see it as a weakness that others can use to control or harm you. I admire the fact that you don’t, I’m still getting to that point myself! Just some clarification on that point, I’ve done some reading on the enneagram.

Being an 8 I can relate to a lot of what he is explaining. I am not afraid to travel alone, do things alone etc. I know I can do it. If I am right, and have facts and info to show I am right, I will not back down. I do not follow the crowd, I think things over, and if I do not agree I will not join them. I handle emergencies well, very little panic, but hours later then things set in. If I say I will do something for someone...I will bust a gut to do it. I like to help people and animals. It upsets me when people around me do not use common sense, like overspend knowing they cannot afford it then later complain about what they spent. I am not stingy with anything I have but will not put with a bum or a moocher. I always have a back up plan for things in case what I am doing goes wrong. I am not afraid to admit when I am wrong, but you will have to prove I am wrong to me. In a crisis I am there to lend a hand to those who need it. Normally my temper is easy going, but if really provoked, I will not back down no matter how big they are. We 8's are not all bad, we do have some smarts and we usually use them. We have some good points about us too. I take responsibility seriously. One last thing, my neighbors know they can count on me, and any time day or night I will seldom ever say no to them if they need help. I ask a lot of questions about things because I want to know the entire information about the subject.

I’m able to recognize his withdraw and insecurities with compassion, also appreciate his strength and protectiveness. And his ambition is unreal. We fill each other’s gaps. He protects and provides generously for our family. But unhealthy 8s can be VERY cruel and controlling. Which is hard for a very empathetic person. Twos soften their intensity. It’s an interesting dynamic. We have had high highs and low lows after 17 years of relationship.

My childhood wasnt what he says but it was abandonment when my daughter was born and the death of my father so I sought control over everything controllable because of what I couldn't control. Self reliance. Interesting thing it was gods mercy that got my attention. Submitting is my biggest influence this past year. Yielding to Jesus and my husband. I'm still growing. The verse about pleasure in my weakness was huge in my life. I fell flat on my face lost control and power and trust I attempted to hold the world on my shoulders and I failed with egg on my face. His mercy, his love and my weakness is everything. In my weakness I found him and this daily reminder of my place and my submission to his will and his strength in my weakness. The bottom of the valley in the dark is where I got baptized and hes everything. Follow him all my days. And yes its daily. Daily. Daily. Daily lol. But I love him so much I'll give him all my days. Any other 8’s get perceived as angry when you aren’t? Not angry, just intense and like to say things as quickly as possible. If I’m pissed you’ll know, believe me lol. Also, anger management strategies anyone? I absolutely have to get it out when I’m mad, so I’ll be cursing and raging white-hot for a quick minute; then I’ll feel that ice seeping into my veins again and stop. Then I’m good. People who’ve seen me like that are freaked out by how fast I go from calm/explode/calm. It’s probably intimidating, but I can’t handle stewing about something like some people do. I find that release allows me to clear my head and start ploughing towards a solution to whatever I’m angry about. Thoughts???

Look into ESTP in Meyers-Briggs typology. ESTPs come off very intense because they are grounded in the physical world and have to push their internal thoughts outward to draw out their emotion and reflect on it.

I’ve also realized when we are talking bout vulnerabilities, it might look a little different between men and female. I resonated with this video because what ultimately is important is how we are seen by God.

Having the the highest scores on 8 followed very closely by 5 then 4! making my tritype 854 I resonate with a lot of characteristics of both 8w7 and 8w9 , but in my introspective time alone I tend to become philosophical, artistically expressive and absent minded totally detached from the physical realm! I believe we are not one type only but a spectrum of all types with a highest Preference for 2 or 3 types , and off course your most Dominant type will reflect the most outwardly in society , thus you'll be perceived as that type! Humans are complex enigmas spread across a spectrum of endless varieties of uniqueness! what we have to do is embrace our innate colors, magnify them and permeate the world with our unique existence! God teaches us through the Bible, which is the only tool we need. Proverbs 30:6 warns us, "Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar." The enneagram is strongly associated with New Age philosophy and has occultic origins. The man credited with introducing the enneagram to the West is George Gurdjieff. Gurdjieff was a mystic, philosopher, and spiritual teacher immersed in occultic practices such as astrology, mental telepathy, spiritism, fortune telling, and posession. One of his followers Oscar Ichazo, along with Claudio Naranjo (a psychiatrist) began relating the enneagram with personality types in the 1960s. In a 2010 interview, Caudio Naranjo admitted that he lied about the origins of the enneagram because he wanted his idea to become famous and widely accepted. Naranjo admitted the enneagram is not an ancient tool of Babylonian origin. He confessed he arrived at the nine personality types through "automatic writing," which is the process of producing written words while in a trance state. The words arose from a supernatural source. The bible warns us not to channel spirits (Leviticus 19:31). The enneagram is a demonic New Age teaching that is infiltrating the church. Please do your research, and remember the devil is the master of deception. Don't be led astray. 🙏🏼 The interview link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rZ2yZH6AjNOBmpo

Classic four that I am - I automatically look for what’s missing. My question after hearing this well put message about 8’s is that I would like to know how to better love and support the female 8s in my community and at church? Lots of talk of 8 men. I appreciate the attempt on the understanding of an eight from a biblical perspective as I am a Christian myself. However, I tend to disagree with a major portion of this video. A lot of people tend to misunderstand eights greatly. I took the test twice and both came out with the same score meaning I’m a hardcore 8. The misconception of our type is primarily in the anger aspect of it all, we are not angry we are just passionate. I also tend to disagree when it comes to the perception of the social cue in the room. If anything, I am extremely perceptive and that is how I approach that situation or circumstance. I do tend to value emotions and feelings for the other person. However, I say the truth with grace and with love while also being affirmative. As much as I commend you for the attempt at understanding an eight, much of this video does not sum up how we are. However, I applaud you for showing some truth in the other personalities and the other types and giving us alternatives and solutions for each individual.
@andrewcramer92004 жыл бұрын
8s don't exist. "[I]t is a barrier to understanding others, which may sound odd since it's supposed to help people understand others. In simple terms, the Enneagram is a PC way to stereotype people. Once you have it in your head that a person is a certain number, you will filter everything they say and do through your expectations based on the Enneagram. This will cause you to misunderstand others, what they are trying to say, and what their intent is...and that is assuming you correctly categorize them in the first place (which is unlikely based on the scientific evidence.)" www.jaymedenwaldt.com/2019/01/the-enneagram-science-and-christianity_17.html No offense, but the Enneagram needs to be thoroughly researched and subsequently tossed aside.

I've shown you some reasons two popular personality type systems, the Myers-Briggs (MBTI) and Enneagram, are not actually good indicators of personality. I have also explored three reasons we're motivated to take personality tests and identify with their results; namely, we want to feel like we belong, we want to learn something we didn't know about ourselves, and we want easy ways to categorize people." www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/people-are-strange/201909/when-personality-test-results-are-wrong-feel-so-right I think it's time we listened to Ph.D's in Psychology who have actually studied these things.

DJ Granville Well, I do think a lot of it was part of who I am even before I knew the Lord, but I am sure a lot of it had to do with my upbringing. I have never been vengeful even before I knew Christ and I have always been vulnerable even before I knew Christ so maybe because I was well loved at home I didn’t feel the need to protect myself as a typical eight would do. The control thing is very true. But of course now knowing that I have no control and the Lord is the one in control I would have it no other way. :-) I also have that self talk of “I can’t be weak “and I think I need to be on guard to not make myself think I am not allowed to “suffer. “But I do like that I can move on from things quickly and not allow things to keep me paralyzed or have pity parties. I feel like I’m rambling. :-)

Or if you prefer the International Encyclopedia of the Social Sciences about typology: "nothing is explained if the state we have attributed to the person from his behaviour, is then invoked as the cause of the behaviour from which it was inferred. Oh, I see the subtle nuances - at least I imagine I do - I just don't care! This is when I am unhealthy. I am also very perceptive because I have LEARNT how I affect people with my force. However, if I try to fix myself TOO much so as too not scare people off I violate myself and people read me as strange. So we all need to be able to balance who we are! As much as I, as an 8 , need to be gentle and have mercy I also cannot walk around on my tippy toes all the time because then nothing ever gets done, I swear! ;-)

This would have been helpful 25 years ago🤣, but much knowledge comes through experience, especially self knowledge. This was an excellent assessment. I didn’t know Gurdjieff was becoming mainstream. It’s wonderful to see.
@andrewcramer92004 жыл бұрын
One of my favorite Gurdjieff quotes: "It is interesting to note, however, that in the beginning, that is, soon after the destruction of the organ kundabuffer in the three-brained beings breeding on this planet of yours, they knew about these two higher being-foods and made use of them with conscious intention, and certain beings of the continent of Atlantis, during its final period, even considered the process of the absorption of these higher being-foods as the chief aim of their existence.” “The beings of the continent of Atlantis then named the second being-food ‘amarloos,’ which meant ‘help for the moon,’ and they named the third being food the sacred ‘amarkhoodan,’ which signified for them ‘help for God’.” If anyone is actually reading this: Gurdjieff was a moon-worshiping weirdo that invented the Enneagram as a system of cosmic esoteric knowledge or whatever, that was later hijacked by New Agers Oscar Ichazo and Claudio Naranjo as a "personality inventory". The Enneagram is nonsense. Please stop using it.
@ajs42874 жыл бұрын
Andrew Cramer that passage is from “All & Everything: Beezlebub’s Tales to His Grandson” iirc. Crazy book for sure🤣. Gurdjieff didn’t invent the enneagram. He re-released it. Their is some truth in the enneagram, but it is Kabbalah witchery tbh
@andrewcramer92004 жыл бұрын
@@ajs4287 That's highly questionable, as he was asked his sources many times and gave as many distinct answers. Many of the ancient origin theories are completely illogical, i.e. the emergence of decimal notation in the 14th century on which the Enneagram hinges eliminates a ton of these supposed origins. The truth is in the practical, real-world applications of the harmonic series (which Pythagoras did discover, by hearing hammers hitting metal.) Applying that to spiritual development would be like if I tried to use my math degree to say the Chi-Squared test can be used to predict your favorite vegetable. It's nonsense.

There is no empirical basis for that. skepdic.com/enneagr.html "We are also told that for a Five to reach his potential he must go against the grain and strive to be like an Eight, whose main vice is lust. The scientific studies supporting this claim seem to have been lost, however." And because I have an idea what your immediate response would be, that has already been countered by a psychologist: www.jaymedenwaldt.com/2019/01/the-enneagram-science-and-christianity.html "I'm often told that the enneagram is not a personality test and that it cannot be tested scientifically. As a scientist who studies personality, I can tell you that both of these objections are plainly false. The enneagram makes the same kind of claims as every other personality test. There's nothing magical about it that makes it beyond the realm of science."

This is a sign of the Enneagram's invalidity. You can put anyone on any number if you only look at specific behaviors on a given day. This is the Barnum or Forer Effect coupled with confirmation bias (you see a trait exhibited by an individual and lock it in your head they're one of the non-existent types, then completely ignore the behaviors that disprove the type you've given them). Explained much better by a real psychologist: "For example, when someone says that they are a 3, you will more easily notice and remember behavior that is consistent with a 3 and fail to notice or even actively explain away behavior that is not consistent with a 3. Thus, even if a person is behaving in many ways that are not like a 3 at all, you likely will only catch the behaviors that are. This difference in attention leads you to feel that their personality type is accurate-after all, you’ve seen a lot of evidence of it in their behavior!" www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/people-are-strange/201909/when-personality-test-results-are-wrong-feel-so-right The Enneagram has no validity, and has no useful application. It is a step removed from astrology.
@chloeelimam38994 жыл бұрын
@@andrewcramer9200 that's fine, I agree that its not "valid" in that it is scientificly measurable, but I do think it's a really good tool to give one the vocabulary to think about why they behave the way they do. It helped me at least. It gave me a lense to view people through to see how other people have motivations that don't match mine, or that people are caring different things than me. It helped me out of a lot of insecurity that I was feeling and I was able to use it as a tool to grow up with less bagage than before. So it may not be strict or measurable, but its okay because its helpful anyway.

It belongs to the confusing and rapidly changing field of lay-psychology: it seems to be a flourishing trade. A psychologist who is a member of the Dutch Institute of Psychologists who works with the Enneagram, risks getting a complaint based on Article III.3 of the professional Code of Ethics, which is about expertise. For non-psychologists such restrictions of course do not apply. But as the Enneagram industry is making statements about our personality - which is subject to scientific research and a profession - we must call a spade a spade: it is simply nonsense.” Wim Hofstee, Psychology Professor Emeritus.

Can we have a discussion within the church about why Christians would be dismayed at being 8's when, literally nearly the entire Bible is a chronicling of the lives of various 8's used by God to advance his plan of redemption? I think it says a lot about the modern church, and why it is, quite frankly either dying or morphing to reflect the world to the point of functionally dying anyway. Are we that afraid of being forthright and bold? Are we that dependent upon the approval of men? Maybe, just maybe, if we stopped trying to neuter every Christian man, we wouldn't be losing the culture war so egregiously. But, hey, Ned Flanders is what Jesus loves, right?. . . even though Christ was, in MANY cases, not a "nice" guy at all. Oh, and the only reason David was even there to sin with Bathsheba is because he was sitting in his palace during the time "when kings go to war." In short, David should have been out fighting!

Hey Acoustik R! Online pastor Jeff here. Thanks for checking out the video. Ok, know this, we do not advise people to call someone a #/fill in the blank. we understand why people do this. But it actually puts people in a box and makes them feel like they are locked in to something. Even if it is "true" we should never "label" people a certain way. Know this, you are fearfully and wonderfully made by God. These assessments (and this message) is to help you understand more about how God made you. Hope this helps!
