This baroque lute creates truly beautiful sound unlike any other. Sarabande in A by Ennemond Gaultier is stunningly beautiful. I wish I could find its manuscript. So far I haven't been successful.

I may be wrong Paul, but I think it is §47 Sarabande in the CNRS edition Œuvres des Vieux Gautiers p.56-57, from Oxford G617 p.136-139; but I haven’t so far found the Oxford pages.

Dear Anna, why don't you play this piece in a 17th century baroque lute instrument?

Not everybody can affort to buy instruments for each repertoire. Copromises need to be made. Actually the difference from an 11-course french lute to a 13-course swan neck lute is more obvious to the player than to the listener. And speaking of the obvious: live playing and listening is very different to any recording, as professional as it may be done.

However, a 13-course swan neck lute would have a very different inner unvisble construction if compared to a mid-late 17th century baroque lute. Thus the sound (colour) and intensity (intimacy) as well string properties would be very different.
