I was curious about the safety standards. Here's what I found: The Triple 8 Certified Sweat Safer meets both CPSC and ASTM F1952 US safety standards. Both of these require the helmet to transmit fewer than 300 Gs to the wearer. The ASTM also requires more rigorous protection for falls from greater heights. The Ennui Elite is certified by the European EN-1078 Cycling Standard which requires the helmet to transmit fewer than 250 Gs to the wearer, so sightly more rigorous, and has a lower test line than the CPSC (but probably not the ASTM), meaning more area of the helmet is tested. It does, however, have lower height standards for fall tests, especially against the high standards of the ASTM, which is why they allow thinner, lighter helmets. The information about the standards can be found here: www.triathlete.com/gear/bike/helmet-safety-certification-actually-means/ And I found the certification of each helmet from their websites or the websites that carry them. Hope it helps!

Considering over 90% of skaters don't wear helmets. I think slim, low profile ones will hopefully encourage more people to wear them. Even if it's not as protective, if it's between wearing a lighter and less protective helmet, versus not wearing one at all seems like a good move forward.

Hey Brandon, thanks for the honest review. I really appreciate that you didn’t let your enthusiasm for this helmet stop you from bringing up your concerns about the differences in thickness from the “regular” helmets, and also didn’t stop you from pointing out that the safety rating standard is not as rigorous as some of the other ratings. That really puts a lot of value in your reviews, because some reviewers will only mention the pro, or point on cons, but then make some excuses for why they’re not really cons. Definitely earned my respect and a sub. For me, I really do like the look of this one and the low profile, but I honestly want the safest helmet I can get, even if that means losing a few style points for a bit more thickness and potentially looking like a mushroom. I do however want to support blading companies, and I do hope they this helmet encourages hesitant people who feel self conscious to pick one up.

I totally get where you're coming from with less cushion or less density when it comes too the product. When you're taking a slam, you're not only just accounting for the weight of your head and neck, but the velocity at which youre traveling to the ground. You have to think the density and cushion of the other helmet may be better for concussive injuries, but its hard to say im not a safety engineer.

My head is 25". I had to order the largest Triple 8 helmet in the uncertified model and it's still a little tight. When they say one size fits all, it usually doesn't include my head. Lol.

I nearly bought one today. Admittedly, I prefer not to wear a helmet, but I’m always torn between this preference and the example I’m setting as a Dad and the only skater in my town. This helmet really piqued my interest due to its weight and profile, and I think it could just what I’m needing. Thanks for sharing, Dude.

I just got this helmet a couple weeks ago as well. I've had a ton of brain buckets through snowboarding, skating, mountain biking, and other sports. This is probably the best one I've ever had, fits great and looks good. My friend with really long hair also tried to get it and said the temple pressure was unbearable, so it might not be one size fits all but most.

Great review! Imma pick one up to replace my Triple 8 one. For some reason the one I have right now got all sticky. Like the coating on the plastic is all weird feeling.

Same thing happened to mine! It was the matte/rubbery finish, picked it up after sitting for a year or two and the rubbery stuff had turned all sticky and slimey. I removed it with some paint thinner on a rag and now the helmet is the regular shiny finish.

I think the honeycomb structure is why they can lose mass and it remain strong. It's one of the strongest ways to structure something so even though it seems the opposite it's probably that the honeycomb design is actually much safer. Probably.
@mountainpeakcloud84422 жыл бұрын
Interesting. I agree that the honeycomb is a strong structure, but from what I’ve learned about helmets, their effectiveness is based on not only strength, but their ability to absorb impact through allowing thick polystyrene to pack down and crack, so that the impact isn’t transferred to your head as much. With a thin yet strong structure, there will be limitations as to how much that structure can pack down and absorb impact, which means more impact will be transferred to the head. It’s like how modern cars all have crumple zones, so that in the event of a crash, the impact is absorbed by the crumple zones.

I own this helmet myself and bought it because of the low weight. It is very light and the comfort is ok. Unfortunately, at a price of roughly 50 bugs the buildquality is ridiculously bad. The velcro-pieces holding the pads adswell as the adjustable headband are poorly hotglued to the inside of the helmet. When i unboxed the helmet, the inside was a mess of hotglue-strings. The headband is made from super cheap plastic and even has some sharp edges. The outer "shell" is so thin, it is barely more, than a base for the poor paintjob, which is extremely soft, thin and has all kinds of dirt-inclusions. When i tried to get some of them out, i instantly went through the paint, leaving an ugly mark. The paintjob must've been done with the helmet already assembled and without properly using masking-tape, as the inner foam and outer edges are covered in white spots and lines. If they would put just a little more effort in assembling this helmet, i'd highly recommend it. At this price-performance ratio i would not recommend buying it though. :(

What is the actual thickness of the helmet? Say along the rim just above the ear? What’s the thickness from inner to outer shell? Curious before I buy to replace my massive old helmet.

Thanks for watching. I measured roughly 1.5cm at the rim from inside to outside. It'll feel tiny compared to any other helmet.

Love the channel Brandon! I need a new helmet so this is perfect. I just want to comment on the safe or safer thing. I play ice hockey I'm a goalie, and I have found using Maltese Padding, which I think is a ballistic grade gel foam, I could get away from the traditional really thick foam padding and size better into different masks with out losing any protection. In fact the Maltese was better. Just a thought. Thanks again!

Personally, I regret purchasing this helmet. It feels very cheaply made (the outside liner of it just peels off, the Velcro stickers supposed to hold the liners in place dont stick and powerslide says its by design which is either a lie or just a terrible design decision) and is explicitly rather uncomfortable on my head (weird pressure points). If I could have easily returned it I would have, but that was complicated due to online ordering with the shop I got it from (whom I am unlikely to order from again). Given the premium price tag ($100 CAD), it would seem to me that I paid for the hype and the allure of low-profile, but got a mediocre, uncomfortable helmet. In the future, I will be continuing with triple 8 mips. I loved that previous helmet but it needed replacing and I only went for this Ennui because of the "low profile" aspect. It was a mistake. If you can, be sure you go in and try one on before purchasing. If I had, I would never have bought it.
