@RitualVomit Artists cutting themselves was first done in black metal around the late 80's/early 90's when Dead joined Mayhem. Which predates the thing referred to as emo theses days by well over a decade.

@trooubermensch cutting has been a part of black metal stage acts and such for a while now. I think that dead (mayhem) used to do it a lot, both on- and off-stage. of course, we know how he turned out....

Yeah, what is the deal with his cutting? I never understood that. They opened for Emperor one time and he took this knife he got from his father (his father got it for service in their army or some shit) and he cut himself too deep and had to be run to the hospital. On a side note, that earned them millions of black metal points - Emperor refused to get on stage until it was thoroughly cleaned. If that's not fucking kvlt, I don't know what is.
