I attended a gunshow in Dallas, Texas and toward the back of the exhibition hall, there was a group of older gentlemen gathered around a table with one gentleman signing a book - on the 509th. It was a detailed narration of the B-29s that dropped the bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Needless to say, I purchased a copy and got the gentleman to sign my copy - his name, "Dutch" van Kirk who signed his name Navigator, Enola Gay, August 6th, 1945!

Beautifull job man.... It's just amazing the accuracy, details on the fuselage and in general view tje whole plane is amazing. Once again CONGRATULATIONS!!! I'm a modelist myself and one of my goals is to build a B-29 as the Enola Gay plane, the one that I brought is not the Enola, but other and I have to adapt the decals and everything that doesn't came with the model. Have a nice time.

Nicley done. I took a die grinder to the turrets and lowered the fuselage holes, then made the covers thinner around tbe edges which made them sit closer to flush. Then the hard part began. Lots more die grinder work to lower the covers. Once that was done i snoothed them over with tamiya white putty. Lots of sanding and panrl scribing later it looked like they never existed. So for anyone who wants it to be a perfect replica.... dont do it lol too much work. Thid model looks great the way he did it. Go with this.

Wow. Even 1:48 and that thing is still a monster. Really gives a sense of how big the plane really is. It makes me want to build one with cut-a-ways so you can really see the interior. Nice build.

Wish I could find a B-36 Peacemaker kit to build. Google that plane and you'll come across some images of the B-29 alongside it, the B-29 almost looks like a Cessna compared to it haha!

Fantastic!! Congratulations. I'm in the process of investigating and building the same B-29 but a card model in 1/33 scale. As for the plastic B-29, Monogram is, has been and always be TOPS. The FINEST in model kits. Thanks Messrs Bob Reader and Jack Besser.

Superb and it's a shame you don't see more of these Monogram 1/48 B-29s built. Just checked this YT video as inspiration before I start my own kit on the Enola Gay. I have to say though, it's a bit daunting having to tackle cutting off all those turret moldings to insert the blanking plates. I just hope I don't mess up this magnificent (and now rare and expensive for the A bomber version!) model kit. Kit decals are shot for Enola Gay as they must be 30+ years old on my box but I am having some spray masks custom sized from the kit decals which should look (much) better when finished. Once again, great build and thanks for the the helpful build comments and advice. Gary

One suggestion for your B-17. The Revell kit interior leaves a lot to be desired. I'm taking the Monogram B-17G interior and substituting it for the F interior. Some Evergreen strips for the stringers in the nose and G2G! For the B-29, a man named Terry Dean makes molded weights for it (and other kits) that sit on each side of the nose gear well under the cockpit floor. They do a great job without adding a ton of weight and are completely hidden!

For models with Nose wheels add pewter scrape/Lead free Fishing weights (Shot) in the Void space's Ahead of the Landing Gear, Engine Voids, Cockpit area voids, fixed inplace with Liquid resin or Superglue This should Simulate the whats needed to keep a nose wheel grounded :)

b-29 fuselage interiors were left in their natural aluminum. it took too much time on the assembly line to spray the interior. just buy the three squadron signal books on the b-29. you'll see.

Hey Boyd I'm just happened to stumble across this video really cool I actually bought the same kit only it was produced under the monogram logo and gave you the ability to build either the humpin Honey or the cream of the crop and the instruction sheet only allows you to build either a standard war b-29 or a Korean war-era b-29 but the kit includes the a bombs for the enola Gay also the patches to make the enola Gay but the instruction sheet does not cover anything on how to apply those or where they go or anything else because the instruction sheet is for the standard world war II b-29 are the Korean b-29 I had originally bought this model as a Father's Day gift from my dad about 14 years ago and he kept saying he was going to get to it he had served in the Air Force and he really love these old world war II planes and I'd gotten it for me to kept saying he was going to put it together and then he passed away before you ever got it built so I recently pulled it out and started putting it together, part of me is almost tempted to turn it into the enola Gay the only problem is as I said the instructions do not tell me where are the A bombs go inside of it are there hookups or anything and there is decals for it so I'm probably going to wind up having to build it as the humpin Honey from 1944 so but I really like how you put your model together it's really cool in this videos kind of helping me with mine might follow the instruction sheet and painted the interior with the dark green actually I used Euro dark green and I have to admit I don't like the way it looks so I'm going to re-air brush it with the standard zinc chromate green and everything but just wanted to let you know that I really think this is really cool I know I tried looking online to see if I could find an online posting for the enola Gay plans but apparently they do not have them all I can find is the same plan sheet that I have so but really cool video really enjoyed.

You and I are about the same age I built my first Monogram B29 about the same time--the nose markings were of Thumper from Bambie. The chrome paint looks good, I wondered how long before you could handle the model?
@ronforsdyke38303 жыл бұрын
Why did you not fit the wings before painting, then any filling required could be done. It looks like some filling required at wing roots or is that deliberate or a decal.
@wrongwayfeldman32473 жыл бұрын
Nice job! How were you able to paint the grey on top of the wings with that chrome on there? In my experience, you never want to tape over chrome because it will dull the finish.
@TrekWorks3 жыл бұрын
I painted on the grey first, masked it off and then painted on the silver.
@wrongwayfeldman32473 жыл бұрын
@@TrekWorks That makes more sense. Just that at 4:40, it looks like the whole model is sprayed in chrome and in the next image the grey magically appears.

The decal of the chick on the Mitchell box art looks like the decal that came in my B-29. I've also bought some after market metal landing gear. I'll be looking for the PE. You did a great job. I hope I can do half as good a job as this one. Great job! Regards, Solomon BTW, I subbed you. Keep up the Great modeling.

@brettpeacock91168 жыл бұрын
You did a great job on hiding the seam on the top of the fuselage...but the problem is that (on the real aircraft) there IS a seam there, top and bottom, especially visible with an natural metal finish. The seam comes from the assembly - like the kit Boeing made the left and right fuselage in halves then joined them with the interior between. Other than that I think it's great work. i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm106/Wurger41/boeing_b_29a_45_bn_superfortress_44_61784_6_bg_24_bs___incendiary_journey10n8agkdc30gw8c00skoog0w8ejcuplo1l0oo0sk8c40s8osc4th.jpg
