In the early morning hours of July 21st, 2016 I rode a extreme thunderstorm while filming my review for the BattlBox Single Man tent. Not expecting the storm that night I had even considered not putting on the rain cover due to the heat... very glad I did! You can read more about the storm in this Newpaper Article:
www.duluthnewst...
The tent held up well, a testament to any tent to withstand that level of storm. The storm caused widespread damage and effect thousands of peoples lives, I hope the best for everyone effected by this storm.

The two folks who perished in this horrible storm were part of a Boy Scout troop from the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex where I live. One was a young scout and the other was an adult troop leader. As you can imagine we received a lot of news coverage (I'm guessing more than the rest of the country outside of your general area) and it showed the massive devastation this storm caused. I'm glad that your and your companions weren't hurt in the storm. It's a great testament to this little tent that it held up as good as it did. I can live with some minor leaking in a storm like that. I have four of these tents. I haven't put them through anything like that storm but it's nice to know they'll hold up under some really bad conditions. Again...I'm glad that you were OK and thanks for sharing.

This is similar to what happened to me the first night I slept in my Hennessy hammock. This huge thunderstorm rolled through and the two Boy Scout troops at the lake had to leave. They left all their tents it came on so quickly. There were inches of water flowing across the ground and into the lake. I was high and dry in my Hennessy.

I'm not sure how I ended up on this video but nice review. I actually have an identical tent made by eureka. All my friends made fun of me one camping trip when I set it up haha. They had your typical 4 man dome tents. The next morning after sunrise some strong straight line winds came through the camp and guess whose tent was the only one left standing? They never made fun of my little tunnel tent again lol

I've seen this video 9751 times and I retired at the age of 19 to watch it all day, all night, 24/7 even while pro-creating, eating, drinking, sleeping because I don't really sleep, I rest, with dict-tape holding one eye open, then, the other. Food is delivered because I no longer drive, do laundry, shave, watch TV, go out, party, talk on the phone, play sports, wash the dishes, mow the lawn or pay my bills. I watch this video on my mobile phone which is always plugged into the charger. I live in a one man tent in a field....

SOP for Marines when bivouacking for the night. There are some things that just stay with you. BTW, was at Camp Fuji in 1979 when Typhoon Tip hit the island. Lowest barometric pressure ever recorded, even to this day. You want straight wind/rain, we got it in spades, lost 27 Marines to bad planning and a super bad storm!

I was in this storm while camping up at Manypoint (Northwest Minnesota) for a week long camp for Boy Scouts and was woken up in the middle of the night by this exact same Thunderstorm. We had to evacuate in the middle of the night and stayed in the Storm Shelter for over 2 hours. When we were walking back to our camp ground it was still dark and lightning and rain were still pounding us. When we made it to our campground, all of our cooking supplies and shelters(tents) were flattened or gone. By this time we were cold, wet, and tired but we had know idea what to do. One of the counselors, came by and we walked 2 miles to the Arts and Crafts building. I only got 30 minutes of sleep that night and guess what? That was our first night for a week long camp.

I know its a one man tent but I'm 6'03" and 275 - 280lbs and a 90lb service dog. Will we both fit or should I stick with my 2 man tent. Hate the thought of having a tent, I can't use.

Been trying to figure out what tent I want for easy simple and effective setup. I have a 4 person that is heavy and cumbersome. We car camp but want to change spots every day (backpacking with gas I guess?) This video kind cinched it up for me, other than it's original designer Snug-box, which is about 50 bucks more but probably would not have had that drip issues as it's all sealed. Or the Eureka Solitaire which has some additional cool features for summer, but probably would not have lived through this weather. It's crazy you still got some rain on you just from it blowing in, as the sides on that thing are pretty high.

@eNosArmory 6 жыл бұрын
Im sure it could, ground current is very real. But no sense worrying about it unless theres something one can do about it. Here, there was not such options available. Besides, you are FAR more likely to hit by wind effect fallen limbs and trees then you are lightning... so there one more thing you can worry about too.

I’ve never camped before, I have a million questions! First and most important question, I saw that your tent is on the ground. How are you keeping the water from the ground out?! I feel like you are sitting in a pool of water,
@eNosArmory
@eNosArmory 5 жыл бұрын
No, I'm not sitting a pool of water.... its very easy to avoid this. FIRST... this was the middle of the summer, the ground was very dry and I knew that any rain we would get would simply run off. It would have taken DAYS and DAYS of rain to saturate the ground in the height of summer to even remotely create a situation where the bottom of my tent would have gotten wet. SECOND... if the above would even have been a remote possibility I would have simply used a ground tarp to avoid the averse effects. THIRD... Never pitch your tent in an area where water may "pool"... this is camping 101... camping requirers you to have a very basic ability to evaluate terrain. Put your tent on higher ground to avoid the water that flows to lower ground. If you pitch your tent on lower ground.... then yes, you will have water problems... and you deserve them... because you messed up. FORTH... I have been camping for nearly 4 decades... I have never had water problems.. because I was taught well, and am not a moron. FIFTH... If you have water problems in a tent, you may consider this a "learning opportunity". Ask Yourself: Did I pitch my tent on high ground??? Regardless of what the answer is you have a water problem... which means you didn't pitch your tent on high ground... which means your a moron.... which is why you and everything you own is wet. SIXITH... When camping, elevation is your friend. It literally has no side effects, unless you are in the Himalayans which means it has major side effects... so much so that a wet tent floor is not even a concern. SEVENTH... If a bit of a storm is enough to convince you not to go camping! If the threat of being wet is enough to thwart your ambitions! If the adverse nature of nature is enough to avoid nature.... then you were not meant to survive.

Dynamic Prepper I’m very sorry. I never meant to offend you. Like I mentioned in my comment, I’ve never camped, so, no, I don’t know the basics of camping. I wouldn't say its a winner if you were getting a leak in one of the seams, honestly. Its probably not made by a very good company at all. Any tent should protect you from most of the rain but I wouldn't put much faith into something like that after several uses.
@eNosArmory
@eNosArmory 7 жыл бұрын
Its a Snugpak Ionosphere... quality tent. There is not such thing as a waterproof tent, all tents are sold as water-resistent... regardless of water they tell you. I own an outdoor supply business. We sell Kelty, Big Anges, The North Face and Mt Hardware for tents. All tents leak in the seams (100% of them) unless they are taped at the factory... most are not unless thats a feature you are buying in a "weatherproof" tent, or a "sealed" tent. All tents are sold as water-resistant... and manufactures suggest you seam seal them once a year as part of your routine maintenance. Typically, I seam seal a tent before I use it.... this one I did not for the review... which is why I would expect a seam to leak a tiny bit in driving rain storm. Its a simple and routine issue to fix. In most cases if I am expecting bad weather, I will string a tarp fly up over the tent anyway. After a year of useing this tent and just got back from a 2 weeks bike tour with it using every night (most of them wet) and being dry and snug.... its winner!
