The best part about these videos is that you've really got a knack for drawing me into the world of the game. I really want to know more about the lives of the people in these games because of your beautiful tracks and brilliant video editing.

Debatable. I preferred the open-air aesthetics and focus on character rather than the city by itself. Granted, all three of them are among my favourite games anyway. People do like to poo-poo on Infinite, though. To my bewilderment.

About two years ago I listened to this remix for the first time. I was so drawn in by the beautiful in game scenery in the cinematic shots you captured as well as the many scenes you drew your sound samples from that I ended up buying every bioshock game! Two years later and I can't thank you enough for making this remix, or I might have never discovered some of my now favorite games.

I love how this song sounds kinda "happy" and the images in the video are so "dark". :P
@natezomby10 жыл бұрын
I love both the technical mastery and pure musical fun in this! I must ask, however: why did you choose this optimistic and child-like sound compared to the dark, decaying and menacing tone of the game itself? The song seems to fit a Disney film more than Bioshock, it's a great song, but I'd love to hear you do a darker song or two simply to hear how you'd handle it!
@liltommyj10 жыл бұрын
A combination of a few things I suppose, I don't think I pulled it off very well but I was going for a similar vibe as the game's soundtrack which is full of smooth jazz and cheesy relaxing songs. I always really enjoyed that kind of "so happy it's spooky" vibe the soundtrack pulled off so well. Secondly, I originally tried to make a track that was a bit more of a downer but it just wasn't coming together. The samples didn't work as well, I was getting stuck coming up with new sections and it was just generally pretty poor. I started again from scratch and edited some samples together to come up with that main melody line you hear right at the start and it all kind of clicked together a lot easier from there. Lastly I get a very nostalgic sensation from playing Bioshock. It was genuinely the first "next gen" game I ever played and it totally blew me away. I have very fond memories of the game and so I wanted to work that feeling into the song in some way or another. Hope that helped though I can totally understand if you still find it to be tonally odd.
@natezomby10 жыл бұрын
liltommyj Ah, I didn't think of the irony/playing with tone angle Bioshock used, that's very interesting! Thanks for the reply, and good luck in your next project, man.
@yesdaddy39298 жыл бұрын
liltommyj I feel like you missed the mark on the "so happy it's eerie" front, but instead you created something (to me at least) that represents the beauty of Rapture before the civil war. It truly sounds gorgeous like nothing I've ever heard before, and the way you mixed the voices was amazing.
@whitefangwalker65257 жыл бұрын
I keep on listening to this, more for the instrumental, but still very good. The instrumental intro with the drowning purse and destroyed plane sinking over Rapture is the best part of all this. For me personally, that with the intro music just has such a powerful sense of emotion that builds up inside me when I see/hear that. Thank you.

I like this one. I gotta be honest, I'm not a huge fan of when a remix uses samples from speech, so I can understand some parts (like the Resident Evil and Last of Us remixes) but it makes no sense together. But in this one, it really does sound like another, unique instrument in the arrangement.
@BoTXefolyN10 жыл бұрын
When using samples from speech, it's arranged as for instrumental purposes, to sound good. Not to make sense.

there have been exactly 0 situations in which i thought liltommyj was pogo. their sounds are completely different
@DJB1izzard10 жыл бұрын
clairvoyantPastry While the sounds are different, the style is exactly the same, and you can't dispute that. I'm not saying liltommyj bad, I think he's great, but i think he needs to try to be a little more unique, otherwise the public will shred him up if he gets famous. I showed this to 3 other friends and they all thought it was pogo too. I could see everyone hating on liltommyj over here saying he sounds just like pogo and i really don't want to see that happen.
@clairvoyantPastry10 жыл бұрын
DJB1izzard Eh, I kindly disagree. I listen to a lot of "pogo" like artists and they all do different things to create different sounds. Pogo usually relies on background noise and ambient tones to create the main melody, then uses voice samples to "spice" it up, if you will. LTJ uses ambient tones as well, but he uses voice samples in a way that forms the main melody of the work. Pogo used vocals like that in his earlier works, but he has REALLY changed, meanwhile, LTJ seemed to master that. You can understand what characters say in LTJ's works like 1% of the time, and that's what I love. I love it when there aren't any lyrics and you get to just... listen. Pogo's are mainly chopped up samples of sentences, and while his works are still pretty great, his style is much more focused on the pace of the work, while LTJ's is more focused on melody and flow. Really, it's like asking if someone prefers an electric guitar or an acoustic guitar. Similar instruments, but have the ability to create different sounds. Then again I've been listening to stuff like this for 6 years so it's probably just really easy for me to piece them apart. I wouldn't ever really try to call LTJ or any other artist like Pogo. They use the same programs and take samples, yes, but they create their own music. I think LTJ is very unique, and he stands to be one of my favorite artists today. Sucks that your friends can't tell them apart, and I do hope LTJ is recognized as himself rather than a Pogo copy or whatever people do. I just get a little tired of people saying "sounds like pogo" when in all honesty, there are MANY artists that remix exactly like this. It's a genre now, not just Pogo.
