This is the first song Caruso recorded in Neapolitan, his native dialect. It is about a poor, homesick Italian immigrant.
Caruso made the song a hit in Amerika.
Later, during one of his stays in Naples, Caruso visited Emanuele Nutile, the impoverished and forgotten composer of "Mamma mia" and is said to have pressed 5,000 lire into his hand - a considerable sum of money in those days.

Der Eintrag wird ergänzt, weil es sehr unterschiedliche EQ gibt. Er bezieht sich hier auf eine kostenlose *'Bass Booster App' 🎧 - ohne* das Zuschalten des BASS BOOST. Die meisten gehen ja mit Bluetooth in ihrem Gerät/Handy richtig um: Audio-Output Stereo, 'Advanced settings' überprüfen, *'Compatibility* Mode' der *App* und evtl 'Sound Field FLAT' oder 'Custom EQ' Ihrer Anlage (Den BBoost nicht - oder vorsichtig anwenden, falls man ihn nutzt). Hi Tom! How nice is your channel dedicated to Enrico Caruso. I am a fan of his, I wrote two degree theses on tenor (the first on Neapolitan songs, the second on the only film "My cousin"). If you go to my profile you can listen to one of the THREE Neapolitan songs that Caruso wrote but never recorded (besides "Tiempo antico" I mean); I have found the scores over the past 3 years, during my thesis research.
