Enrico Caruso sings Neapolitan Song "Manella mia"

Date of recording: Friday, 24/02/1911 (composed by Vincenzo Valente).
Some claim that one meets the "true" Caruso when he sings Neapolitan songs.
Caruso was not an educated man by modern standards. He received very little primary education (some three years) - his family eventually couldn't pay the monthly school fee of 5 lire.
All his life he had troubles reading, yet he became one of the most celebrated tenors of all times.
His gift was his voice and his great heart as heard in this Neapolitan song.

But I will venture to dare to say that I have never heard a voice other than Carusos that so fully expresses the full gamut of life experiences, of joy and of sorrow, that his did. Grandissimo Enrico Caruso, quasi non lo conoscevo se non per averlo sentito nominare in qualche rara occasione, ho ascoltato la sua grande voce e il suo enorme talento e mi chiedo perché non si faccia studiare e soprattutto ascoltare nelle scuole alla pari di compositori come Puccini e Toscanini. Penso che per un ragazzo conoscere la vita di Enrico Caruso e ciò che di stupendo ha regalato al mondo sia una di quelle bellezze che possono cambiare in meglio le coscienze

Per insegnare Caruso nelle scuole bisognerebbe prima insegnare il canto. Cosa sia e come si canti. Altrimenti come si potrebbe capirlo?

Se hai letto gli altri commenti di denota che sono tutti stranieri, Caruso e più amato all'estero, in Italia per le nuove generazioni è quasi uno sconosciuto, oggi pochi apprezzano il bel canto, la gente si riempe la testa della musica e canzoni spazzatura dei cosiddetti rapper e musica metallica, si è perso il gusto del bello che è anche arte. Sono rimasto all'oscuro di cosa fosse il canto, finché con molta fatica e molte difficoltà sono riuscito in qualche modo a trovare un insegnante vero e a imparare qualcosa. In seguito ho potuto rendermi conto che per quasi tutti costituisce un mistero e che per lo più è identificato in una qualche modulazione della voce su un testo musicale. D'altra parte ogni canzonetta è così e gli interpreti della musica cosiddetta "leggera" , urlano, gridano e strillano fino a spolmonarsi, tentando di eseguire le note cosiddette acute, per loro mai superiori a un La naturale. Il nostro fu il paese del bel canto, in virtù della nostra lingua naturalmente musicale per la pronuncia netta e completa delle vocali e il legato delle parole nella frase. Non appena però si cerca di eseguire una melodia in tono, senza tecnica adeguata, il bel canto cessa miseramente. Forse qualcuno, nella scuola, si è mai preoccupato di insegnare a cantare? Ma se non lo sanno fare.....! Così restano i coretti in chiesa.

As all of my fellow opinion makers, I must and will say that the voice of Caruso was divine. What I also want to say is that as marvelous as his operatic recordings were, the Italian folk songs take the cake because in addition to being the most marvelous musician, Caruso was Italian, as this repertoire, to the core.

In my opinion one of the very best neapolitan songs that Caruso ever recorded. It is an enigma that this song is so little on the repertoire among his contemporaries and later singers too. For example both Giuseppe di Stefano and Franco Corelli ought to have been excellent interpreters of this very emotional song. Nevertheless here is again a marvellous transfer of a Caruso song reachable for everyone who has the pleasure in the art of singing and the recordings from the past. A lovely photo!

Der Eintrag wird ergänzt, weil es sehr unterschiedliche EQ gibt. Er bezieht sich hier allgemein auf eine *'Bass Booster App' 🎧 - ohne* das Zuschalten des BASS BOOST. Die meisten gehen heute mit Bluetooth im Endgerät/Handy mAn. richtig um ('Advanced settings' überprüfen, den BBoost selbst vorsichtig verwenden, falls man ihn nutzt). Audio-Output Stereo, *'Compatibility Mode'* der App und evtl 'Sound Field *FLAT'* Ihrer Anlage. Bitte *Artikulation* oder Begleitung beachten; dann wird der Effekt klar: reiner, brillanter Klang - obwohl EC ohne Mikro.

*EQ-Regelung* hat *nichts* direkt mit einer mgl. zugrunde liegenden Restauration zu tun. Sie wirkt aber wie eine Ohr'Brille' und kann (bei alten Aufnahmen fast stets) zu einem *schärferen* Höreindruck der Wiedergabe führen. Das Schöne ist, dass es ohne großen Aufwand erreicht wird. Wer die Musik vom Handy aus (Kopfhörer/Bluetooth) steuert, sollte damit keine Probleme haben. Intensität der Handy-BB-(EQ) App *bitte weitgehend* ausnützen; Gesamtlautstärke ggf. auf Ihrer externen Anlage korrigieren! Es ist *NICHT LEICHT,* mittels eines EQ eine merkliche Besserung der Klangqualität antiker Aufnahmen zu finden. Dazu gibt's *kein* Preset! Die hier angegebene Einstellung© hat hunderte Stunden meist kleiner Schritte der Verfeinerung erfordert (durch Abgleich vieler historischer Aufnahmen von ECaruso, Orgel, Violine, Klavier usw. usw. - mit WFurtwängler, ATatum, KRichter, ACortot, SFiorentino etc. etc), um alle Praxistests zu bestehen. Insofern ist nur eine *genaueste* ! Befolgung wirklich zielführend in "die 1. Reihe".

Vergleichen Sie bitte ab 2:54 mit/ohne EQ .... wie ein etwas verschwommenes Foto insgesamt schärfer wird. Auch an 'Surrogatparametern' (Instrumente oder Text) ist der differenziertere Klang erkennbar. Warum, kann man am Graph der Funktion, die aus der *genauen* ! Regler-Position (kein preset; manuell einstellen!) resultiert und eine Crescendo-Verstärkung der hohen Frequenzen zeigt, diskutieren: Er erscheint im Display. Wiesehr hochwertige Lautsprecher klangverbessernd wirken, ist bekannt. Dass schon ein EQ das Ergebnis günstig beeinflussen kann, ist wohl weniger geläufig.
