The music of this concert is dedicated to St. Prince Josaphat, greatly revered throughout the Orthodox church. The ”Divine Liturgy of Davydovych” draws from the traditions of the early Baroque style with canons between two choirs and simple harmony patterns. One polytonal episode describes the battle in heaven; after the fighting between angels and the devil, the latter disappears from the score, sym-bolising God’s victory. The concert ends with the triumphal glorifica-tion of the Heavenly Kingdom.

While studying in Kiev, Ihor Kolomiiets founded the Ensemble Musikia, together with other graduate students. specialises mainly in Ukrainian baroque music, works by both famous and anonymous composers, but also sings in church services. Their first CD Slavonic Baroque contains several liturgical works.
