I've been intrigued by this module for a long time, but hesitated to get one until I saw Jeremy's demo on the Red Means Recording channel. I've included a link to his video so I don't have to explain how it works. I am still trying to get the hang of it, so stay tuned for more. The Ensemble Oscillator is a 16 sinewave sound design dream that supports superfat leads, chords, drones, soundscapes and total sonic madness.

Can't believe I missed your comment, Jeremy! But you made me buy this module with your amazing video and I absolutely loved your Erbe-Verb adventure.

I agree, it is an extremely powerful sounding module! I am gravitating towards multi-voice oscillators like the Delta CEP A with the RT-311 that’s 24 oscillators in all so between those two and the Brain (I’m willing to be Behringer comes up with a way to use all those at once in a future update) considering the popularity of complex oscillators. Also there’s some filters coming out that help change the game as well like RT-475 (I think that’s the name, I always forget it!) at the moment that’s the only fancy one I have but I’m playing with others that are basic. Great video, I loved it!

EO is an excellent oscillator. It gives the Humble Audio Quad Operator a run for it's money as my favorite oscillator find of 2020. First day out of the box and it was making some surprisingly good bells/gongs. You can send the root to one output, the harmonics to another, then use different envelopes to shape each part of the sound separately. Definitely worth checking out. Great video!

Fascinating stuff, as always. I've seen some demo-reviews of the 4MS-EO online and it would easily be one of my 1st purchase in the ever expending Eurorackland. From velvety tones to raspy timbres, it's a moving landscape of aural gifts (I guess ambient is becoming my thing as I grow older. But I always had a soft spot for it, anyway)

I’ve got one, I find it can be a pain in the arse to get it to ‘behave’ as it has a tendency to spin out of control v easily , this vid helps!

considering building my first eurorack rig based around fm. Made some prototype rigs, and I was forced to include this in every one of them, just for it's value offer. Nice as a super-oscillator for FM, but useful on it's very own. Thank God it has a linear FM input. Seems like that's a hard ask when it comes to VCOs. Which bugs the hell out of me.

I know it's been two years since this has been up... but man, after the 5:15 mark, what was the Ensemble patched through? THAT was pure creepy bliss and exactly the elements I was looking for. I wish you would do a vid on all darker sounds this can produce. Excellent presentation!

It looks like it's just going through the Tasty Chips ECR-1, a convolution reverb module. It was superseded by the ECR+. Both are kind of hard to find at the moment, but there's a possibility they'll make more of the +'s. Here's hoping.

Next to my telharmonic as well! Love it - still exploring its depths after a few months. You were using the Rainmaker here for reverb...not Desmodus Versio...Erbe-Verb...or Tip Top? Was that just a matter of which case you put this into? Do you think EO sounds better with particular reverbs?
@CinematicLaboratory
@CinematicLaboratory 3 жыл бұрын
No, I used Rainmaker into Desmodus Versio (off screen, top row). I think the EO sounds great with any reverb. In the second part I used the ECR-1 but even that one went to the Desmodus in the end. So for me personally, Desmodus is my favorite for any source but I love huge unrealistic space. TipTop Z-DSP also excels at that (but it's in a different case).

Can you get single notes? meaning can i sequenced a melody without hearing chords? and use as like a bass line? or does it only play chords all the time...
@CinematicLaboratory
@CinematicLaboratory 2 жыл бұрын
It can do amazing single note leads and bass lines! You can adjust the 'spread' so all internal oscillators go unison.

@CinematicLaboratory

No, the module is mono if you only patch the A output and becomes stereo when you patch A and B :).

You are pushing me hard to keep with my 2xRackbrute 6U man! There is no enough space for all the cool modules you test!!! Now I'm trying to select a new oscillator+more controls. I own Just friends + mangrove (both amazing oscillators for me), and I wonder which could be the better option/complement.. EO? Odessa? BIA? DPO?
@CinematicLaboratory
@CinematicLaboratory 2 жыл бұрын
Yes I can relate to that. I have a lot of modules that need a rack. I am now using my 2x6U Rackbrute as a live system and it doesn't change that much. I know BIA, EO and DPO very well and very impressed by Odessa. You need to decide what suits your favorite music best. NE BIA is amazing for bass, kick and percussion, but cold and digital. I'd pick the NE LIP over the BIA any time. DPO is a classic Buchla style oscillator which really needs a bigger system to support it. EO is an amazing voice (going to use it next sunday to do a church organ). Don't forget to check out the ShapeShifter during your Quest. Imho, it's often overlooked and seriously one of the most powerful complex oscillators out there.

@@CinematicLaboratory I'm new in eurorack, but not with synths.. I've owned several of the most iconic ones, but during last 2 years I've started to reduce elements trying to have the "complementary ones".. Less units, more creativity. Right now I keep two. Vermona Performer Mk2 and Arturia Polybrute. So I tried to build an eurorack set that complements this set for ambient, or other sound palettes not so easy to obtain from standard east cost methods. That's why I finally decide to include DPO in the chain. I own also the Mannequins set as VCP, lfo or filter, but after watching all your videos, I felt that there is so much inside that module that need to be included. And something even more important.. one of the reasons is because I feel more confortable learning with it using your ideas and videos + make noise channel videos as the best creativity tutorials I found. So.. I hope to receive it in 1-2 weeks :)

@CinematicLaboratory
@CinematicLaboratory Жыл бұрын
The ENS OSC and the SWN are clearly related. I think you can get a lot of similar sounds from the SWN, but the wavetables sound a lot 'thinner' and you'd need to do a lot of patching with 'helper oscillators' to do all the FM. I often wish I kept my SWN, but I really don't like the sound of wavetables, where the ENS OSC just sounds deep, fat and more 'analog'.
