Eonta, Metastasis, Pithoprakta. So much nostalgia from my mid-late teens, a new world I fell deep into opened up, and I'm still there!

***** So we meet again, haha I love Stockhausen (where we initially met) but Xenakis has been my definitive favorite composers since I became a classical fanatic, but I like works from all eras of classical (even if I have my preferences for the heavier classical, eg Xenakis, Penderecki)

Fantástico. Xenakis é genia,l explorando as ressonâncias instrumentais de modo bastante criativo. Uma obra contemporânea difícil e impressionante. Gostei muito!

To be able to pull off something this difficult in a convincing manner is very rare. This group performs this piece brilliantly! Being a pianist, I'm especially impressed with the piano player of this group. Well done!

What a tour de force. Is the pianist playing from memory? It beggars belief that anyone could memorize this!!

Ermis Theodorakis is a unique pianist for this music. His technique and memory are just phenomenal. He has performed all of Xenakis's piano works for the composer himself.

It must have sounded fantastic live in that cathedral. Saw Branca in a cathedral, that was a trip.

I saw the score to this a few days ago and wondered to my self, "How could ANYone possibly play this thing.....and play it well?" It is absolutely ridiculously nuts and insane and these guys are obviously musicians of the highest caliber to actually pull it off....before an audience! Not only do they perform the music well but also add the visual element, too, which I enjoyed. Ian Mac in the comments calls this music "rubbish"---and to most people it naturally would be--but I somehow find it fascinating. I can`t tell you why, except that I do enjoy the world of 'texture' for its own sake. The Universe is often not a very pretty place and sometimes must be laid bare.

Iannis Xenakis studied math & architecture...he expressed math thro notes...he designed spaces for sounds the reverse. He studied Pythagoreanism & had a house built based on this knowledge.

Eonta was of course an ultramodern piexe when it was written, but take some distance and listen carefully. This music is clearly antiphonel between the five brasses and the piano. This can only be a malicious hint at Venetian practices in S. Marco, Venice during the Renaissance.

So this comment comes as a composer, an admirer of Xenakis's music, and as a somewhat skillful pianist. Obviously, this performer has dedicated some time into learning this score. Why don't we see this pianist on the world's concert stages, playing the works of Liszt, Brahms, Busoni, Schumann, Rachmaninov, Scriabin, etc. Am I missing something? Is it possible there are some wrong notes? Could some inaccuracies be obscured by the aggressive brass writing? Asking for a friend...

Maybe he prefers working as a part of an ensemble, rather than being a soloist. Some excellent players do. It's not uncommon, for example, for string players of the highest ability to work within a string quartet rather than playing concertos or the violin's solo literature.

I first heard this at Sydney Con in the early 1970's as a student. Performed by Roger Woodward et al. (He actually used a mini score and turned pages himself) It was rubbish then ... it's rubbish now. Get rid of it ... kill it, burn it ... do something else with your time.
