Peter Bayley Well, not quite. He certainly was the voice of it (he wrote most of the lyrics, and his vocals is.. well, quite unique really). He also wrote a lot of music, mainly together with Markus Toivonen (the lead guitarist, and only remaining founder of the band). Jari also wrote some tracks by himself, like for example "token of time" and "sword chant". When he left, it was a tremendous loss for Ensiferum, but they are still marching on with new members. And all in all, its our gain, now we get Wintersun in addition to Ensiferum :)

no, jari also wrote the songs in ensiferum, sword chant, lai lai hei and token of time were completly written by jari mäenpää, and there are only few songs written only by markus, the most their songs, were written by both, and in wintersun, teemo mäntysaari wrote nothing

No, Toivonen is Ensiferum. He wrote most of the songs even when Jari was in the band. I am a big Jari fan myself, but I think you guys are exagerating his role in Ensiferum. Especialy when you consider that band sounds pretty much the same even without him. However, I do miss his clean vocals, and Petri can't do that.

Jari is definitely wayyy better than Petri.. Jari does both the clean and harsh vocals whereas Petri just does the harsh vocals (kinda 1 dimensional). but both are still great musicians nonetheless!
