You can't talk about the true greats of folk-inspired melodic death metal without reverent mention of Ensiferum, and with Two Paths they once more affirm their place in the pantheons of the genre. Further building upon the thrilling metallic hybrid honed across six full-lengths, Two Paths is simultaneously the Finnish quintet's most epic and far-reaching collection and their most organic, which definitely sets it apart from the pack. "When we made 'One Man Army' (2015), we wanted it to sound more like a live album than a traditional studio album. With 'Two Paths', we took that to the next level with analog recording, cutting down tracks and even recording songs without a click, and because of that there is a totally different kind of groove compared to most modern metal albums," states bassist/vocalist Sami Hinkka. While their ideas are huge and they consistently prove they have the talent to back them up, the band maintains the grounded MO that has served them so well over the years, with the results speaking for themselves. "It all comes down to writing music that sounds good to us and is fun to play live, and I would say with 'Two Paths' we've done everything better than we ever have before."

Seriously, I'm not sure what the so-called fans that took the time to write a negative comment here are on, but this album is a MONSTER! Folks, they won't sound like they did 20 years ago, it's obvious. Bands mature, their abilities evolve, their tastes in music change, they want to experiment with new sounds, riffs, melodies, and so-on... This album is a great example of masters making great music 20 years into their career. Worth every minute of your time! My vinyl is in the mail on its way to my collection.

Man, i cannot agree more!! Thing of what The Irons would be today if their fans would be that deadlocked on old styles. I really cannot understand how those haters can still think Ensi stays the same if Jari&Co left. It has to change after that, and they made it change for good!! Even thou "one man army" may not be the best album, the rest is awesome stuff in their own style, not in "Jari´s" style (althou i know it wasnt his style alone ;)). U guys rly would be more happy if they just had copied the old style?? I dont think so, u would hate it the same way, cuz ur unable to change urself and go along with good musical talent. And "used to be"?? So u judge about Ensi´s style now from the first two/three albums?? Are u kidding me? Each album has its own style, and this one is more "Tavern Style" I dont have a prob with that. Much better then to have always the same shit repeated over and over again!!

Ensiferum is one of my best 'travel music' bands. When I'm driving over 1000km a day, it can play in my car without stopping, and I even don't thing about change the music. It's an awesome band with a great music! And this album is not an exceptation. If somebody tells that 'It is not the classical Ensiferum any more, I can answer - Dude, they can't play the same 'Ahti' and 'Heathen Horde' from album to album. The music is changing and it is normal. If somebody, did not hear Ensiferum in this album any more - then please try to listen it one (or maybe 10) more time, It is presents there, trust me :) The album is awesome, it sounds wery well and professional! Good luck Ensiferum in the future, In Your Sword I Trust, You're the best!

Honestly was not what I was expecting. Very uplifting sounding album and a decent mix of Harsh and Clean songs which I was awesome to hear. I like it quite a bit more than the previous two albums, but From Afar still takes the win for Petri era Ensiferum for me. I love this band and I am glad this album was not another Unsung Heroes and added a bit of flavour to it, but it didn't blow me away or leave me disappointed.

I don't understand all the critical opinions. This is a badass album. Yes, it doesn't sound the same as 10 years ago, but why should it? I don't need Ensiferum to release the same album over and over again. The Iron album already exists, and if you want Jari there's still Wintersun. I don't see how Ensiferum in any way broke with their style or lost any quality in this. They emphasized different things in places, but it's nothing new or out of place as far as I can hear.

I didn't like this album at all, until I saw them playing 5-6 songs of it live. With the usual high quality, entertaining live-performance of these guys I thought:" well, thats not bad at all." I gave the album a second chance and here I am, loving this whole thing now. Sometimes you need to give albums a second chance to understand its greatness.

And to be honest. Ask urself, as fans, as metalheads. Why u listen to music like this? Is it because ur kinda of a fanboy..or is it cuz u feel ur warriors heart inside ur chest? The Ensiferum new blend with 'Two Paths' album is fine where it matters, which is great for metal fans that just want more freedom aside some of the classic albums which might adore most. At first I was struggling to get used to this album like everyone else, but after listening about 4 times, I'm sold. It usually takes some listens to get on board.

I am trying to find some other bands similar to Ensiferum cause I like them so much, but Ensiferum is so many light years ahead from the rest that I end up listening to them again! I just can't get enough of their music. since I've learned about Ensiferum I believe in 2007, the more I listen to their music the more I like it. These guys are unbelievably doing my favorite style of music. The higher melodic guitar volume throughout the tracks makes it so powerful and melodic. Beautiful inspiring folk elements make it even more special! I love you guys and wanna thank you for makin' my life brighter and making me happy! ... And here goes again now "King of Storms". Oh god... I am speechless... Please DON'T change the style.. It is one of a kind - THE BEST

@@bumboclat It's true, the nearest I've found is the German band "Equilibrium" from Bavaria (Bayern). They are really not bad. Check them out: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Equilibrium_(band) What I love the most about Ensiferum's music are CLEAR, SYNCHRONIZED, FAST rhythm, and the strong guitar. Very well balanced sound. The lead guitar, it is sound from heaven!

Perfect album. Everyday I like it so much. just fix your heart beat to album. I like feel of sorrow and at the same time continue to struggle nice I had same feeling in the Korpiklaani albums . At least music is reflecting this.

Their new web page is godly neat, trim contours and awesome pictographs poses of the olden day chivalrous kind. Guess it is good this new album got put together, pretty gosh perfect and right for their heightening. Ensiferum is awesome once again, the other albums after the Wintersun band were wavering, the site might of seem abandoned but this is a good recuperation for Ensiferum. Amazing job on it, good.

Some fans don't seem to realise, that band members are artists and sometimes they need to do something new and different to keep themselves interested in doing music. Yes, this album is somewhat different than their older albums. But it's not worse for sure. If you don't like the change, just simply don't listen to their new stuff.

Yeah sure, but it’s also ok for longtime fans to state when they don’t like something. Nothing wrong with it as long as it’s stated politely.

I like the album. good to see bands getting away from the heavy orchestrations era. it's got more guitar pumpy riffs getting back to a more raw metal sound we've been missing for the past 10 yrs

You know what's your problem? The negative side feels something they don't really know. Let me tell you the truth. Music is a piece of art depends on everything personal and non-personal influences. If you think this album is just for the fans, let me know you, you're wrong. This album is masterpiece about the actual world right now. So choose your path now. Be gone, if you want something epic, that time passed like wind in the summer. If you are a warrior like me fight with them by my side. Brother, Sisters! Prepare your best swords!
