The Metallica Blacklist album was a charity project that sought out alternate versions of songs from their Black Album. The artists were chosen by Metallica, and The Warning was paired with singer Alessia Cara, who actually was the artist Metallica chose. Her invitation came late in the project, with just 10 days to deliver a finished version. Alessia Cara and The Warning both use the same international management team, and someone suggested that they work together. Written with Alessia's input the Blacklist recording struck a balance between Alessia's vocals with Daniela Villarreal (guitarist/singer of The Warning) while featuring the harmonies of the Villarreal sisters. They re-invented it as more of a lullaby than headbanger. This concert version was a re-write of the Blacklist version so Daniela could perform the lead by herself. The main difference is the vocal arrangement. Alessia's voice is on a track singing her backing parts only.

(Probably even more than the original song.. 😉) Please return to The Warning and listen to some of their original songs. They collaborated with Alessia Cara (who can be heard as a track here) to reinvent the song at the express request of Metallica. "Don't change the lyrics. Otherwise, be creative." Ten days, start to finish. There is a great original music video they did of the version on Metallica's *Black List* album. It's the same arrangement, but Pau does the prayer dressed as the creepy kid from the Addams Family. This version hits harder, but the OMV is more artistic. To understand the context of this, go back and watch what sent three little girls on a mission - a direct cover of the same song done in 2014. 25.7 million hits on KZbin so far... Today their catalog includes their first EP of original songs, four full original albums, a single, the *Enter Sandman* collaboration, and about 15 original music videos (at least half of which are MTV quality stories). They are selling out halls large and small all over the world, and just finished performances at Pol'and' Rock in Poland and Wacken Open Air in Germany, two HUGE festivals. Watch their live shows like this for reviews or reactions. This concert is awesome, with 22 songs, one of which is a recording (with audience flashlight show) during a quick costume change break.

The rewrite of this song was also a collaboration with Pop singer Alessia Cara, that is why this song is so different. In the (Blacklist) album version, Alessia Cara is much more prominent at the start of the song, here Dany does most of the heavy lifting and then Alessia Cara's voice is used in the backing track.

DPA/TW and Alessia Cara certainly understood the assignment! Alessia Cara is a Grammy winning Canadian Pop and R&B singer... they had 10 days to rip this rendition of *Enter Sandman* from the ether and make it a darker, more eerie, and a more haunting lullaby than the original metal version... this was done because they, and many other artists from numerous genres, were invited by Metallica to take one of the songs from the original "Black" album, keep the lyrics and change it up how ever you like... play it backwards, upside down, whatever... this was all for the 30th anniversary of the "Black" album... all the submissions from 50someodd artists were put on the 2021 "The Metallica Blacklist" album... the proceeds from the album sales are split 50/50 with half going to Metallica's "All Within My Hands Foundation" and the other half being donated to a charity of the participating artists' choice. in the OMV, Dany (guitar) and Alessia share the lead vocals until they are in the three doorways when Dany takes over and Alessia does more of the background oooohs and aaaahs... the version they play in concert has Dany doing the vocals with a backing track of Alessia's ohhhs and ahhhs... of course Ale (bass) and Pau (drums) join in with their angelic harmonies in both... this is a fantastic reimagining of the iconic original... this 60+ year old rocker loves both versions of *Enter Sandman* but this one by TW and Alessia gets more airtime these days 😹 TWA ⚡🤘😸🤘⚡ TWA

While on this "Enter Sandman" series, I think it would be worthwhile to include their 2014 cover of "Enter Sandman", which was performed as close to the original as can be done with a three-piece band. Its 25M views should qualify it for inclusion!

Daniela (Dany - 15 / Guitar) Paulina (Pau [Pow] - 13 / Drums) Alejandra (Ale [Aleeh] - 9 / Bass) .... uploaded a video on KZbin with the 3 sisters performing a cover of *Enter Sandman.* For distant family could see their development as a band. Instead of traveling all the way to Monterrey, Mexico to see them. Video went viral. Band stopped playing *Enter Sandman* live in 2017. In 2021. Canadian pop singer Alessia Cara was asked by Metallica to be part of celebrating their 30th Anniversary of the Black Album charity project called *Metallica's Blacklist Album.* The Warning got involved in the project collaborate with Alessia Cara on *Enter Sandman.* There were 2 rules. #1: Artists (over 50) was free to do what they wanted to do with the song they were to cover. #2: *THEY WERE NOT ALLOWED TO CHANGE THE LYRICS.* The Warning had eight days to write their version, record their part in Monterrey& Alessia Cara's parts in Canada via Zoom [Covid travel restrictions], mixed & sent to Metallica to get the song added for pressing. 2021 - Metallica releases The Blacklist Album. The Warning made an official music video with Alessia Cara via Zoom. That was released in 2021. In 2022, The Warning took their version of *Enter Sandman* on the road to play live. They removed all Alessia Cara's vocals except her *Whoaaaaawwhoaaaawhoaaaaaaaas's."* Which are on a backing track. In 2023, fir two special shows. The Warning played their 4th *Enter Sandman* version by slowing the tempo down slightly more to accommodate a string assemble playing live. In 2024. Cool idea to do the same some by different artists all week. Not sure too many reactors have done that. I have to admit, I am not a Metallica fan, and I was sick of this song, until this version came along. A lullaby where Dany very sweetly puts you to bed, then rouses the troops, shares a little prayer, the angel chorus comes to sing you to sleep, then Boom, the hammer drops. I think of this very much as the female version of the Sandman tale told as a dark lullaby. So good. Delicate, powerful, soothing, strong, gentle, fierce-all at the same time. I love this one. ====== Great that this is your first exposure to The Warning. Just a short introduction to these three: The Warning - Three sisters from Monterey Mexico who started playing together when they were children and who have now been making great hard music for more than a decade. With four studio albums, several live concert videos, we think there is plenty of material for you to choose from. They were independent for the first two albums (Kickstarter and crowd-funded), but are now signed to Lava/Republic records.
