I played a blind player at a pre release and it is my favorite match I have played. Every time I told him what a card did he would joke around and be like, "WHAT? You're making that up."

I had a couple thoughts about that. Given how big respect is, in Japan, I would imagine japanese Magic players(who already have a passion and, likely, respect for the game) would at least be more likely to learn how to pronounce foreign names of cards, as accurately as possible. They may also consume a lot of english magic content, themselves. That regular exposure, to native pronunciation, would likely also have an impact.

Never heard of this show before but oh my gosh this is awesome!! I need more! Also great topic, I was really amazed to know more about the local japanese scene in Magic, this was a topic that came up when we where watching the ProTour at my LGS that it would be a lot of fun to play in another country but be able to bridge the language game through a game.

I got back into MTG after several years during my time living in Japan. I was petrified of playing such a rules/finesse heavy game in an environment where I wasn't a native speaker...instead I had a great time and grew an even greater admiration for the Japanese people (Not to mention the game of MTG). It was a great time, and I felt very welcomed.

It seems like Blind Magic players have to work a lot harder to play the game at a reasonable level, but it's great to hear that there are at least a few out there that have fun with the game and can actually compete at a level that they're comfortable with.
@pphyjynx82176 жыл бұрын
Everything takes extra effort for the blind, not just card games, walking down the street safety is a challenge for blind people. so idk why them struggling with a text based game surprised you.

So if I went to Japan to play commander, would I be able to get around without knowing any japanese words? Like explaining stacks, triggers. I love playing commander with others because you get to see new decks that you would never expect. Also, people don't always play optimally which makes things hard to predict and overall ends up really interesting and satisfying. Games aren't fun if its too linear afterall. Hence why tic tac toe isn't anybody's favourite game.

It looks like there is more than enough people who speak more than one language. So I am sure they find ways to make it work when a person only speaks English or Japanese.

Yu Gi Oh and Pokemon cards are still kings in Japan, not MTG.
@pphyjynx82176 жыл бұрын
that's changing, and has been for years world wide, the order is simple: MTG Yu-Gi-Oh Pokemon TCG These 3 have been dominant for years, no other card game has even been able to break in to the top 3. Yu-Gi-Oh used to be top card game, but Konami ruined that.

or it's just not worth it? since hardly any blind players play magic the gathering, i'm sure they'd make the blind guy custom brail cards if he asked
