Actually, that is Roy Chiao's real voice. He grew up near an American military base and as a result, spoke English fluently. I had met him when I was a kid in Chicago and he indeed sounded like an American.

@@axelstone3131 Bro. Bruce Lee was super cocky. He was the biggest action star in the world during his time. He thought he can beat everyone up but point is, he had demons in his life like everyone does. I believe his family was marked for death. Look what happened to Brandon. There were even rumors that The Chinese mafia wanted to recruit him and that they killed him.

@@abrahamgonzalez8270 not true, it is easy to mistake his self actualized confidence for arrogance. If you consider what he said about the illusion about being a "super star" you'll understand that he is too self aware to think he is better than everyone. I believe that his seemingly cocky mannerisms were just a very unique personality honestly expressing itself.

This is Bruce Lees real voice as it clearly matches with all his dialogue in the rest of the film. No one really knows why John Little took it upon himself to dub over the original for the anniversary directors cut. But as pointed out by another post the Criterion collection does give you the choice of the original mono track. A few people have also asked about Roy Chiao and if its his real voice. Yes it is. Roy could speak perfect English and also had a hand in the the films production. Roy had a pilots license and took the director Robert Clouse up in his plane to take shots of "Hans island" to be used in the finished production albeit with some Mattes added in post production.

Lee: Teacher? Shaolin Abbott: I see your talents have gone beyond the mere physical level. Your skills are now at the point of spiritual insight. I have several questions. What is the highest technique you hope to achieve? Lee: To have no technique. Shaolin Abbott: Very good. What are your thoughts when facing an opponent? Lee: There is no opponent. Shaolin Abbott: And why is that? Lee: Because the word *I* does not exist. Shaolin Abbott: So, Continue... Lee: A good fight should be like a small play, but played seriously. A good martial artist does not become tense, but ready. Not thinking, yet not dreaming. Ready for whatever may come. When the opponent expands, I contract. When he contracts, I expand. And when there is an opportunity, I do not hit. It hits all by itself. Shaolin Abbott: Now, you must remember: the enemy has only images and illusions behind which he hides his true motives. Destroy the image and you will break the enemy.

I've been a professional audio engineer for 17 years. The first segment i don't believe is Bruce lee's voice but it's a much better rendition than the voice actor used in the dvd release for this scene. It seems like this recording was done back in the 70's, perhaps planned to be included as an extra scene in a home release version. The last segment at 1:18 however does sound like Bruce lee.

@owenlhere Wasn't the original dialog in Chinese? That's usually why voiceovers are dubbed in. Why can't I find a clip on youtube, of the cgi commercial that took the famous scene of Bruce Lee intimidating a group of thugs with amazing nun-chuck showmanship, but replacing the nun-chucks with a balloon, culminating with a ballon animal? That had to be one of the funniest things I have ever seen, and the statement, the implication that Bruce Lee could intimidate thugs with anything?

Okay definately Bruce Lee's voice here is the same as in the Warrior's Journey. As well I think this is Bruce Lee's real voice since he has such a strong canto accent, and with both the voice actor of Bruce Lee that was apparently used, they are both non asian. And its extremely hard for a non asian to immitate a canto accent while speaking english. I dont think anyone dubbed him.

Bruce Lee did in fact use his real voice for Enter the Dragon, but this rare unused footage is not Bruce's voice. It was dubbed by John Little and it was added to the new anniversary release. John Little is the author of many Bruce Lee books and was able to copy his accent and sounds close. I believe he does receive credit for it.

John Little. I never heard what happened to him after his falling out with the Lee estate. He was a ghost writer for several of those Bruce Lee books that came out in the 90s. He narrated some Bruce Lee documentary stuff too as well as appeared some interviews. I have no idea if he ever even met Bruce Lee, but he was friends with Linda and he has the original Marcy Circuit Trainer that Bruce owned which he used for weight training in Hong Kong while filming Enter the Dragon. My only real concern with John little is that he followed the Lee estate’s party line in regards to only revealing Bruce as some kind of saint, completely magnifying his good side and minimizing the realities of Bruce’s life which were often not so saintlike-but that which made him so much more interesting as a real person.
