I really miss when SCP explained channels talked about the SCP foundation and SCP‘s that weren’t always popular, but were interesting stories. I’m sure that this will be well written and well animated and well narrated but I also miss the reasons that I started watching this kind of content to begin with. I know it’ll be a good video because this channel always has good videos but I still really miss when this channel talked about and explained SCP‘s which is what I subscribed for. please don’t go down the path that SCP explained has gone down. I’m still hoping that they’ll start regularly explaining SCP‘s again but are used to at least be able to come here and get that. I just miss it.

There are only so many SCP’s you can write an interesting story or video about, unfortunately. There’s a lot of lore around the dozen most known ones i.e. 106, 96, 682, 001(s), etc and the rest are often just simple entries describing some item or cryptid without any extra information of where they come from and such. If Bob / SCPExp were to make videos about them, they would have to write new lore for the SCP and it’s on the border of encroaching their IP (aka the SCP).

My first episode of Dr. Bob was "my face that i may have" and i come back to older episodes ever so often because they are just so much better than the new ones. Not to say this one is bad, but older ones are just better in my opinion. I have contemplated a lot of why Dr. Bob doesn't go back to the old formula, especially considering that the top comments of every video since the Gorefield one is something about missing the old videos, and by now i am pretty sure it has to do with the algorithm of KZbin. You see, the newer episodes are both longer and focus on "original content", as in content that is not straight up ripped around the actual file on the SCP Wiki. The title of this video is a prime example of how he strained from lesser known SCPs to the more commonly known / mainstream media ones, most likely to generate more views, more clicks and with that more add revenue. When the channel first started there was no money to speak about, while now the channel probably creates enough income to live from. To put it into perspective, this video alone, that has 12.700 views to point that i am writing this comment , made between 1200 USD and 3800 USD just around one hour after uploading it. Don`t quote me on this, i used the default 0.10 USD to 0.30 USD per click google told me a KZbin video would make and calculated the rest up. Lets say Bob would go back to his old formula, a short 3 minute story and a longer explanation that - to the most part - is straight up just a narration of the official SCP wiki with a mid-quality animation, there would be an extreme drop in views and with that a drop in income. If there is a team behind the channel - wich most likely is the case - some would just leave the project killing of the channel as a whole. Adding to the above mentioned thematic is copyright issues - the SCP fandom operates under the Creative Commons copyright license, meaning everyone can share, use, add and monetize products of the fandom without facing legal actions, as long as they also do the same in return and not enforce copyright laws about their own creations contributed to the SCP fandom. So - TECHNICALLY - using anything from the wiki is fully legal and making money off it like Bob here should be perfectly legal and cant lead to any issues. However, there has been a case of a guy called "Andrey Duksin" taking advantage of the entire "everyone can use it, everyone can monetize it" thing behind the fandom and claimed ownership of the products from SCP, meaning he could sue Bob and other KZbinrs doing similar content for using it. Google his name if you want to read more, its a pretty complicated case. I can imagine the Bob simply stopped with his old formula to not get sued over it, but i doubt it. To get back to the algorithm since this comment is already way too long, lets say Bob goes back to his roots and makes his videos include both a long cool story, the explanation and maybe even one or another report on experiments done with the SCP. Just a rough guess from me, lets say, a 15 minute story, a 10 minute explanation, another 10 minutes of experiment descriptions and around 5 Minutes of Endcard and the signature "bob destroys the SCP by his pure presence", coming up to around 40 Minutes per Video. Sounds cool, heh? For us yes, for Bob and / or the team behind it, not so much. Pumping out videos like this means that they have to get 40 minutes of storyboard, animation and narration done within a week so there can be a weekly upload. Seven days - or around 126 hours to come up with a story, design each character, draw each character, animate each character, write a script, narrate the script, edit the video and upload it, and yes, i only put in 6 hours for the creator to sleep, eat and have a social life for each day wich is not NEARLY enough for an adult to be healthy. why not give the channel more time between uploads then? Because the KZbin algorithm will not be pleased. It will hide the channel from subscribers, hide videos from search results, maybe even unsubscribe you (tho, i don't know if this was a one time thing or is still a concern with the platform). The other option to pump out more content in less time is lowering the quality. Less smooth animation, maybe non at all, using photos instead of drawing, and so on. The issue with that is, that ones a certain quality of video making is arrived creators cant go back anymore without loosing follower, wich again leads to the algorithm thinking that the channel is bad and showing it too less people. Less people equals less views, less views equal less income. Less income equals - you get it. The last option i can think off is that the creator simply doesn't wants to go back to the old formular because of personal reasons, whatever the reason is, this channel is still one of my favourite ones and i cant wait for the next upload. Please excuse grammar mistakes, english is not native language ^^"

For people complaining about what Dr. Bob's content is turning into, please understand that it is not entirely his fault. Not only does he have to play by the KZbin's algorithm, he needs to abide to what his fans in the Patron requests. It is arguable that, at the end of the day, he still has a choice on what he uploads and what he makes, but regardless of the content he still puts as much effort as any other video he's made. Please understand that not everything can stay perfect forever and accept the new changes.

Fun fact: The almond water comes from one of the or the first stories about the Poolrooms, where it's remarked that the pool water smells like almonds. It was supposed to imply that the water contained cyanide, since cyanide smells almondy, so it's pretty ironic that it's the "safe" liquid in the backrooms
