I understand that every organization, federal, private or otherwise, has its internal issues, flaws, political B.S. and corruption. The USFS is certainly no exception to this rule of experience-- it happens when working with systems administered by human beings. That said, I found this video inspiring. I take these speakers at their word and think what they work towards is admirable. As a young adult looking to make a difference in preserving wilderness and ecosystems, as well as to influence myself and others to the crucial role of such natural sites and systems, I would consider the USFS as a way to do just that.

Is this a field that's really hard to get into? As an Anthropology major, conservation is important to me and I find this career option fascinating.

+Benjamin Maddox Yep. It's tough. I am just now entering the National Park Service as a Ranger. There were 200 applicants for my job. I finally beat them all.

Fewer and fewer full-time jobs will open in the Forest Service as with most of federal employment. Most openings will be low-paying seasonal jobs with no benefits or stability. And there will be fewer seasonal jobs as well. Good luck in your job search. You'll be better off looking to contract work with the federal sector rather than working directly for them. Save yourself the headache and politics.

great vid, it's a pity that our forests get so F**ked by political ineptitude despite the best efforts of the FS staff.

Do any of your videos teach anything or all of them useless propaganda?

You guys are the biggest joke of an agency. “Science based management” and weak leadership. I’m talking about you Laurence Crabtree and Rick Hopson.
