Once heard a through hiker say that at one point, no matter how much you eat, you never really feel full. Thoughts of food are normal.

We brought Spam on the trail for the mornings we woke up to ice. It was delicious fried. Mmmmmm.....😋 We tried it again once we got home and didnt like it at all. 😂 So funny how the trail can make some things extra delicious.

First, I just want to say thank you so much for sharing all your adventures. I am a solo female hiker with dreams of doing some long trails once my youngest is in college, but I confess that as it gets closer, I am finding that I am starting to feel a bit nervous about going alone. Watching you getting out there going on all these great adventures is inspiring and it's easing a lot of my fears, so thank you!! I also just wanted to let you know that they do make small resealable packages of freeze dried fruit and veggies (at least in the NE they do). Check in the candy isle, by the nuts, or in the organic section. One of my go-to hiking snacks is dried seaweed. It's super light and salty and goes great with cheese. Enjoy the trail!

Coffee+Nature=Happiness❤ Getting tired of the same food/snacks does suck…I have friends who can seriously eat the same things day after day but I can’t do that…I have 2 different food dehydrators…one for meats and one for veggies and my brother has a freeze dryer so we make our own dehydrated food for camping and backpacking…nice to be able to use healthy ingredients and control the salt level…I do like what you were saying about having hiker friendly food station/shop/food truck…Made In Minnesota Spam is fine but best warmed up!

If I'm not mistaken the Fontana Hilton was built in the late 1980s. When I thru hiked in 1990, there were I think 450 starters and 261 finishers that year and it was the highest number of finishers to date. I had Pop Tarts, Snickers and beer for breakfast usually. LOL Your idea about dehydrated veggies is good. I did that in 2002 for my hike but I dehydrated 1/2 a quart zip loc each of peas, carrots, tomato's, celery, corn and green beans and I just added a small handful of whatever I wanted to my meals. They added a lot of flavor and nutrition and lasted about 3 weeks before running out. I also cubed up some pepperoni and cheese, added a couple of packets of Italian Dressing from a hoagie shop and cold soaked my Ramen all day as I hiked and in camp, I mixed it all together for pasta salad. My name and FB site is Jim Adams. My profile picture is me in a purple fleece with my backpack on and my cat on top of the backpack. It is from my 1990 hike. I you want, drop me a note with a Post Office or Hostel you will be at in the future, give me about a 3 week plus lead time and I'll send you some dehydrated veggies. If you don't want to, I understand but the offer is there if you want it. geek A.T. '90 & '02, PCT '08

I have heard that you can soak a tent in a tub with vinegar and lemon juice for a few hours. Then let it air dry, before packing it away, to kill mildew spores.
