Angelina Jolie’s Daughter Zahara Joins Sorority at Spelman College

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt's daughter Zahara Marley Jolie-Pitt has joined a sorority in her second year at Spelman College. In a video shared by 'Essence' on Instagram, the 18-year-old takes part in her 'crossing' ceremony that initiates her into the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, the first intercollegiate historically African American sorority.

I love that Angelina’s daughter attends an HBCU!!!! They instill a lot in our young by giving us the confidence to succeed….and for her to pledge our first black sorority is quite an honor! I went to an HBCU & i will never forget how it made me feel… she is embracing a rich culture……growing in a mixed culture situation can be confusing….but once you know your own……its easier to embrace others…..i hope she has a fantastic time in school….it a memorable time!

The fact that she raised children of different ethnicities but still instilled in them cultural differences from her own is commendable. Her son going off to South Korea for school and her daughter going to a HBCU. A lot of non white kids who are raised in white parent households find it hard to adjust and interact with people of their own races/ethnicities when they're grown because they are only socialized and educated around or mostly around white kids. I kept calling myself with my mom's surname when I was like in 3rd-5th Grade in school. the school and mom had to tell me to stop doing that. I officially changed my surname in 11th grade. Children see things that adults think they don't. So you can't always assume mothers negatively influence their children...
